Re: Some general questions and "Hello"

Hi Space Cowboy,

I updated my BIOS via http://biosagentplus.com
Sure, it cost some money, but It includes a year subscription and up to 5 PCs. For me, it worked out well.

Re: Some general questions and "Hello"

Let us know how it works out. I recently got my old FIC VA-503+ up and running. Been fun to use old software from good old days. I have ATI 7000 AGP card and 512MBs RAM.

Re: New Machine based on HP case

Hi Jim,

Hang in there! Sounds like they have your number. :(

Might be good to do an electronic sweep of your vehicle for any tracking devices. ;)

Re: New Machine based on HP case

WinXP is definately going to be a better experience, With Windows 98/98SE we lack driver support. I reverted mine back to Win98SE and am regretting it. But heck, I like reinstalling changing configuration and reverting back. What I really need to do is have a dual-boot Windows 98SE and XP system. As...

Re: FIC VA-503+ IDE noise problem

I wanted to follow-up to my post as I had issue with more than 2 devices. I now have IDE HD on master primary and IDE DVD on primary slave. the 2nd disk is on secondary and as a single drive, I needed to use carrier select and not master. Ooops. It all works. I ran test again and same good results. ...

Re: Socket 7 desktop mainboard and ACPI Suspend to RAM (STR)

Hey there, Found my old motherboard manual and see that APM is supported. It has different BIOS screen depending if you have AT or ATX power supply. There is no mention of ACPI. During install of Windows XP, I had installer note that system is not-ACPI compliant. Otherwise you will see errors in Eve...

Re: My GA-5SMM cannot seem to handle more than 512 MB . . .

Hey there,

That is a weird cutoff for memtest. My FIC VA-503+ supports only 512MB, so I am no help there. You may want to go with updated firmware. I updated mine via http://esupport.com/.

Re: FIC VA-503+ IDE noise problem

Just completed disk integrity test on FIC VA-503+ with WD 240MB HD on Primary Master and AOpen 16X DVD on Primary Slave and it passed without issue. Always best to use high quality cables, etc. Mine are rounded clear ones from web site (no idea where, been awhile). So, thumbs up to FIC VA-503+. Note...

Re: FIC VA-503+ IDE noise problem

Hi, I got my rig with IDE HD on primary master and AOpen DVD IDE on primary slave and then booted the Ubuntu 8.04 and ran the memtest and saw no issue. When I have chance today, I will try the disk integrity. This disk is a "known good" as I have used it to install Ubuntu to my old IBM T30...

Re: Strange behaviors of my k6 3+ 450acz

I would try a new power supply. I just bought a brand new 400 watt AT power supply on Amazon. I bought it as a backup, as they are getting hard to find. Power supply can be an issue, especially when you remove a known good component and all is well. Then you add it back and have issue, Remove a diff...

Re: My GA-5SMM cannot seem to handle more than 512 MB . . .

I would look for MB manual. There may be a limit of 3 32MB or 3 64MB chips, but not 3 128 or 3 256MB chips.

Perhaps you cannot use all 3 sockets? My FIC VA-503+ can use DIMM or SIMM, but not both. So, I have empty sockets, which is fine. I also use memory recommended by Jim.

Re: FIC VA-503+ IDE noise problem

I will have to check my FIC VA503+. I had done a recent rebuild using only a 10GB drive and an AOpen DVD drive. Windows 98SE was running fine before I got bored and decided to change the hardware by adding a 2nd disk to install FreeBSD. I had a hard time for it to recognize all 3 devices. I had want...

Hi Senor DonPedro, Gracias for the link. I have been using AT 7000 with drivers (old) that came on disk. The 10GB HD drive gave up the ghost on the weekend in the middle of Pool of Radiance. I had an extra 10GB drive and ran it With Windows XP and did all directx tests. The Win XP runs slower than W...

Hi Mamba, I first tried an EVGA AGP 6200 card. First issue I ran into was not enough resources. After a lot of searching online, I found out I needed to enable IRQ for VGA. With that being done, I was out of 16-bit VGA land. However many times I tried with that card, I failed for version 8 and 9 wit...
