Re: Crazy k6 3+ build
Sphere, thanks for posting your results. As I stated, lots of people got standard SSD drives to work . . . I gather most saw similar results to me: much improved seek and read speeds, slightly slower write speeds, but nowhere near the capability of the SSD itself (mostly driven by PCI bus speed limi...

Re: Biggest k6 + news in twenty years.
Of course . . . what would really allow us to do a lot with these chips today (which are great workhorses) is if there were anyway to work around or implement SSE2 to allow use for web browsing in today's world (outside of the .1% of web pages and really old browsers that do not require SSE2). Unfor...

Re: Biggest k6 + news in twenty years.
Really cool Sphere. Great work! Makes me wonder if there is really any difference between most of the K6-2+ chips other than how the temperature rating (which is big) and how well they did in quality control. I have overclocked my 550ACZ for nearly 20 years . . . I never bothered with a 570 ACZ befo...

Re: Crazy k6 3+ build
Sphere, Thanks for posting your plans on a 'new' build! I am replying nearly a month past your original post so hopefully you are pretty far along in the slow and sometimes frustrating process of resurrecting old technology and finding the right mix of hardware, setting, bios, and software . . . esp...

Re: FIC VA-503+ revisted
I do not feel particularly bad for resurrecting this thread as it is not nearly as old as my VA-503+ is. Does anyone have (or have a link to) the JE4333-APM BIOS for this motherboard? It is a user-created BIOS based on FIC JE4333 that supports APM and supposedly improves support for LBA hard drives....

Re: Call for Links to Old Software
Nohr, dumped my cookies and it worked. Looks like it was remembering as a broken link and taking me to the old non-existent website. Thanks!

Re: Voodoo 2 Quake
I never had this particular card; it surprises me it would require anything anything to make it work in DOS, but the post here: https://www.3dfxzone.it/enboard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15868 seems to confirm that you should use glide.ovl library in DOS. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like any of the links...

Biessea, una calorosa accoglienza! I'm in Belgium now and similarly have found extra time to spend tweaking my old game/software rig. I am not familiar with your board, but a quick search on Tom's Hardware indicated it might be capable of 100Mhz: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/motherboard-revi...

Re: Call for Links to Old Software
Thanks Nohr! Not sure how I have lived without Central Tweaking Utility for 20 plus years. The link to the latency fix still doesn't work, but I use a George Breese version that seems to do the same thing, so no worries. Anyone who needs the George Breese latency fix let me know.(usually in fixing g...

Call for Links to Old Software
Predicting that I will have some time no my hands in the coming weeks I have decided to see if I can work at extending the life of my VA-503+/K6-2+ for 10 more years. It has been a reliable old gaming/software rig, but it no longer seems to want to run at main bus speeds over 100Mhz (I figure the ca...

Re: WOW...I'm blown away, this site is STILL up!
Skalabala, Thanks for posting your success links. Really like the modified heat sink . . . something that has always been limiting on my board. You inspired me to go fire it up and tweak with it some more . . . and success found with some additional hardware (these were just for fun) and software tw...

Re: Fic va-503+ driver help
VIA 4in1 driver . . .also there is an aweutil file specific for the awe64. You might have to do some searching to find them. If you get it up an running I strongling recommend Windows 98se/me (Gives you me files) and KernelEx 5.4.2 (lets you load some 2k and XP specific programs including newer vers...

Re: WOW...I'm blown away, this site is STILL up!
I hardly check in on the site anymore . . . usually if I have a problem with my K6-2+. She is still going strong and is well loaded it up with all the old software that I can not seem to get to run on Windows 7 or Windows 10. Let me know if you get yours fired up.
