The point I should have tried to make clear is that within a board model there may be BIOS/rev, combinations that will allow the machine to post and boot into windows. This does not mean that the cpu chip is fully implemented ( no internal cache, no write allocation etc. ) but it does allow you to i...

While Jim and I seem to have different thoughts and experiences with p5ab's we both agree that you need the manual!!!!! Of the 3 p5ab's I have set up this way ( 2x rev.1.03 and 1xrev.1.06 ) only 1 of the rev.1.03's needed a bios flash to POST. This does not mean that the chip is properly recognized ...

RE: Serial ATA PCI Controller: Works great on Tyan S1598C2
If only I had known before! I just set up an ATA raid with a Promise card in the belief that SATA wouldn't work. Oh well, with raid 0+1 I still get some performance and redundancy. Thanks for sharing this.

oops. Should have included this before. I also have used these chips in G5 boards and they work just fine. In regards to your k6-2 550 have you tried setting the multiplier jumper to X2. On my K6=2 550(G5 board) this is remapped to X6.However I have never gotten past the windows splash screen at thi...
