Re: Socket 7 into 2011

Linux... I don't know who got the "brilliant" idea of requiring i686 or higher as default, so many current distros doesn't work. Ubuntu, which is the most popular right now, simply doesn't work as support was explicitely dropped in 11.x. And future doesn't look bright... I hate to say it ...

Acer AL1916W LCD powerboard capacitor re-population

I've had this monitor for a while and I'm probably the third owner it's had (my family share upgrade discards), I was naturally curious about the condition of it's capacitors after hearing of others with venting components causing all kinds of collateral damage... from flickering displays to rupture...

Not yet... but thanks for the link, I used to operate 98Lite back in the day and was very happy with it's performance and though this is unlikely from the same author it looks promising 8)

Very creative solution Jim! :D

Those Scythe thermal devices certainly look the part, personally I've always wanted one of those Cooler Master Musketeers but they're getting a little thin on the ground here abouts and TBH they're more form than function

How could anyone refuse such generosity? give me time to build up funds in my Paypal account to at least cover the shipping costs okay? :) The ASUS is the better board though it has far less cache...

No doing it the easy way for you...Hmmmmmm? Okay, there is a labour intensive method of altering your clock settings to achieve higher than 100Mhz FSB, ultimately it involves swapping out your PLL reference crystal (see picture below) and installing a slightly higher rated component, I've ...

I've always had a hankering for DFI mainboards, but seriously Jim you keep them (and build more K6X beasts) I'm sure if I keep my ear to the ground one will simply fall into my lap (currently I'm overstocked with s462/s370 parts & systems) Now that I note K6Plus has an "other platfor...

I used to have one also, but the fact that they were just a stock K6-2 500 factory OC'ed was very apparent, as it ran hot, was unstable and wouldn't OC one extra MHz, so i had no fondness for it. The factory 550's were better than an enthusiast OC as the factory deemed it more stable than the 533/5...
