My old system played DVD's fine. I don't think the PII 266 will make it without a decoder card though :(

I ran into this same problem with a 550Mhz compaq a few years ago. It just wouldn't boot, and seemed to be in suspend or something. I couldn't figure it out either. The comp was sent back under warranty, and returned to the person fixed. I have no idea how it was fixed... Compaq's are just evil, esp...

I experienced this problem before on my board and couldn't figure out why for a week before I got a different stick of PC100 SDRAM and then it magically worked....I think the ram I had been trying went bad for some reason. I had left it out on a desk for months and it was quite dusty....(Maybe dust/...

I've found that a combination of a good GeForce 4 MX 440, 128Mb PC100 RAM, and using the ffdshow codec pack works pretty well with Divx movies... Sadly even then I still had the strange instance of a Divx not playing as smooth as I would have liked, or having my movies fall out of sync... I'd like t...

Well, I own an Asus P5A-B rev1.05 board, and ran 128Mb for a few years. As far as I know it states it can hold 3x(256Mb)=(768Mb) of ram. And yes I've read that Win98 is only good up to 256Mb and anymore ram is just useless(though I'm running Win98 with 512Mb of DDR400 right now). If you're moving fr...

I'm kinda confused about the driver link. My onboard sound is nvidia(nForce/Soundstorm) based, not realtek based...Are they the same thing?? :?:

Yes, the new system is running well. I do however have minor problems with the NF7-S's onboard sound. I get glitchy repeating sound effects or noise when playing some games. And when watching movies, the sound will fast forward 2 secs then play normally then fast forward again....very strange. I che...

I'd create a new one from a full length blank if you have the tools to do so... If you're apprehensive about cutting holes in a blank, how about soldering a piece of blank on to the original dell plate to add length?? You just have to cut a straight line through a blank and then solder rather than c...

You could try to manually set the memory ranges for the conflicting cards... I've never done this, but it is possible. There was someone else on K6plus that had a similar problem and fixed it that way, but I don't remember who that was...

K6-2 I knew ye well...

I'd like to take this moment to comemorate a wonderful K6-2 system that is nolonger in one piece. It was a great little rig that just kept on going...even after I fried its BIOS last December and had to get a replacement chip  I recently upgraded to an Athlon XP-A(Barton) 2600+ CPU and an Abit ...

I've been using 56.64 drivers for months now with no crashing at all. Infact its running my games even better than before. The only thing I noticed is it takes a bit longer to get into the Nvidia properties, but I guess with an aging comp and Nvidia's bloated drivers that should be expected. I haven...
