Flashlight!

Have you tried stripping it down to CPU/RAM/Video and clearing CMOS?

Check the capacitors on the board very closely to see if any are bulging, or leaking.

Jim, I tried it with a K6-II+ at 600Mhz, using 384MB SDRAM, Via MVP3 at 100Mhz, ATI Radeon 7000, and Power DVD 5 and WinDVD 4, and it still was not smooth. Close, but noticably not smooth for enjoyment. Did you have DMA enabled on the DVD drive? If it wasnt, this could solve the problem. Using winX...

what IP address were you trying to ping? If you arent sure how to find its IP, just type "ipconfig /all" at the command prompt, then look for "Default Gateway" and to the right of that will be there routers IP address.

Jim, I cant really tell you much from those numbers. The bandwidth and latency are quite bad, BUT that could simply be because your landlord was using a lot of bandwidth at the time. As KachiWachi mentioned also, I wanted you to ping the dlink router itself. Dont worry about checking anything outsid...

OK The latest is the logging on & off problem has returned, but this time with a difference. I can now read news stories on my XP side, but I can't come here. Every time I try, I get the "Network Cable is Disconnected" popup and "Windoze" can't find the page. Right now I am ...

I just find it a little odd that Epox would give the K6+ CPU's the correct recognition in their BIOS's but not expand the Write Allocation feature for them. I use Rawpower to enable WA on my board but it would be convenient if it was handled in the BIOS. I had always thought my epox mvp3g5 was enab...

You have a few solutions for some of your problems. You can buy a better heatsink fan, I would recommend a Zalman like one of these... . Replace your heatsink, but only if you notice it affecting your system in some way. Just because it's hot doesn't mean it's not working... Passive cooling (heatsi...

D'oh, didn't even see that! The URL text is the same colour as the rest of the text for me... ...of course now that it works normally, you'll feel the urge to start overclocking it a bit to get more performance  I would love to, unfortunately I wont be able to. This board has no means of a...

Thanks, clearing CMOS did the trick. I cant believe that in the 9 or so weeks Ive had this problem that I didnt think of that. I gained 10fps in cs source (increased from 48 to 58 ) now that im running 133/133 (fsb/mem) rather than 133/100. Im noticing the performance gains in other places too. FYI ...

change memory speed within windows?

Is it at all possible to change the memory speed within windows? I just want to be clear that I am referring to memory speed, not the CPU front side bus speed. I have an asus socket A board ( a7s8x-mx ) that is not letting me run my RAM in sync with with my CPU's FSB, rather it is forcing it to run ...

I was using 640MB pc133 (2x256MB + 1x128MB) without problems, currently back down to 2x256MB because I needed the 128 for something else. As others have mentioned, you need a double sided 256MB DIMM (8 chips per side).

RE: What

Well one bonus of the epox board is that the latest BIOS has full support for the + series chips, so no modified bios is needed. To my knowledge Epox and Soyo were the only companies to offer support for the k6-X+ chips. I think a side effect of the full bios support is that no special utils (like o...
