Re: P5A-B rev1.05

Hi Peter, Managed to get a K6 2+ 550 fired up in the 1.06 board with the modification. Had to use 2.1v which is kind of strange as 2.0v is sufficient on the 1.04 board for this cpu. Anyway things are not completely right as yet. Using the setup defaults for the BIOS I tried to see what the chip can ...

Re: P5A-B rev1.05

Go to vogons topic "K6-2/3+ Success on Asus P5A 1.06 - simple mod" to see the full explanation as to what is required to get your P5A or P5A-B working with a K6 plus cpu with the G rev chipset.

Great news.

Re: P5A-B rev1.05

Hi,
Interesting. Can you give more details as to what configuration you have used and bios used etc. Did you carry out any board mods?
I have a P5A with both the 1.06 and 1.05 and 1.04 revisions. Only the 1.04 with the defective tagram works well with a K6+ cpu.

Re: SiS530 @133MHz (GA-5SMM/Soyo 5SSM) setup, benching, tweaking

The HDD on my old Gigabyte G5-SMM set up finally gave up the ghost. I replaced it with an old WD 20GB HDD and put Windows 98se on it. After setting everything back up of course I tried the tweaks and then just went into Superpi. System now is Gigabyte GA5-SMM v1.2 (L2 disabled) K6-3+ @ 600MHz (4.5x1...

Some other things to consider. 1. Whilst running a K6-2 cpu you would be better to run at a FSB where the onboard cache is enabled as the K6-2 has no (on cpu) L2 cache. 2. Disabling the onboard cache will also slow down memory access performance for the K6-2. I guess that the cache size for the P5S-...

I think you should find the Gigabyte GA-5SMM just as good at 133 MHZ. I have found it to be rock stable at 133 providing the on board cache is disabled and running with a PCI video card. It has overclocking settings at 105, 112, 124/31,124/41, and 133/33. I have not tried the 133 settings with onboa...

Eric, I think that you should be able to hard set your motherboard to 4.5x133 even though your manual does not give the settings. I have taken a look at the settings for the jumper block FS0,FS1,FS2, and SD and these seem to be similar to the jumper block on my GA5SMM board. So to give a setting of ...

Using the MVP3 WPcredit tweaks supplied by Jim and others to the EP-MVP3-G2 board at 616Mhz (5.5x112) I got for Everest MR/MW/ML 347/182/197 Superpi (1M) 4m 32s Just a fraction shy of the score I got with the asus P5A running at the same speed. However not a bad score at all and maybe with some more...

Not so sure that the Via chipset can be put down so easily against the Ali chipset. Put the Epox EP MVP3-G2 into the identical set up that the Asus P5A was in. For the cpu set at 5.5x100 I carried out the Everest bench and came out with MR/MW/ML 307/157/218 This was after setting wpcredit to activat...

The K6xv3+ 66 revBB+ has settings given for six frequencies. Namely 66,75,83,95,97 and 100MHz. Has anyone tried the other ten possible settings to see what they give? if anything. Maybe some of the settings are mapped out to give overclocked fsb frequencies. Could be tried with an older unused cpu w...

You might get that chip to 600MHz if you are lucky as the 400atz variant is not guaranteed to get you to 600. If not then 550MHz may be the best you get. As you are running linux I am not sure if there is a software overclocking program available to you as you will need this to get anything higher t...

Glad to here you got it working. If you don't want to push the fsb too much then you can use the 103fsb setting to get 618MHz. It will run as steady as a rock at that.

Eric, I have some apacer sdram and it is fast. The stuff I have though is high density single sided 256 modules. However in my Socket 370 board they do 180fsb at cl3 and 170 at cl2. The board I have also has the 1/5 divider to keep the pci bus in check. Have you tried each ram stick individually in ...

Peter, Did one quick test with Hotcpu last night with the board running at 100fsb. The cpu running at 600MHz. Without showing the details it managed 1113 pts. As I think Jim has shown in the past with Superpuppy 2 running the multiplier at 5.5 shows big gains in memory write figures on the ALI V chi...

Peter, The strange thing is I haven't changed anything. Mind you I don't think that I did any superpi scores with the p5a before. I will run some hotcpu tests and see what I get. I think that I will also try a faster video card. I think you have p5a's? is that right? I have the 1.04, 1.05 and 1.06. ...
