RE: Determining memory interface width of videocards?

The very excellent PC diagnostic program Everest does it, at least for the cards in my PCs, including my laptop. Quite impressive.

Wiggy's suggestion is a good one. If you want to go new, the 9200 (not 9200 SE) wouldn't be bad, probably slightly slower than an 8500.

Thanks Nohr. I thought I was going to go blind until I changed themes. Not so bad now (using PostNuke Blue2)

RE: Best PCI videocard for SS7?

There's a PCI video card roundup at: http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=445 from about a year ago. Of course they tried theirs on a > 2 GHz P4 so I don't know how applicable it would be. But then again, the minimum requirements for Sims2 goes beyond any Socket7 system. See here: http://thesims2...

Re: i need help..

I have a compaq computer (yeah, i know it sucks, but my dad is who bought =[ ), and about my mobo i just know the chipset (mvp4). I have a tnt2 pci too, but the real bottleneck in my system is my processor, k6-2 533. I have 256 ram. And i need to find a way to improve my performance in games, cause...

One of the early regulars here, and/or on the amdzone forum, used a Kyro for awhile, but I don't think he was much of a gamer. Can't remember who it was though. Wiggy is absolutely right about the cards that will work best on these systems. A Radeon 8500 or GF3 type card would be best. If you were ...

Re: CPUs: Don't we need a breakthrough in power-usage?

I also have a vague recollection of a few years ago that the processors Apple used for the Mac were like AMD in that they got more done with less MHz, but unlike either AMD or Intel in that they drew much less power. I wasn't sure if power per MHz was lower as well, or not. Not sure about that any ...

The Tekram you have is a 440BX chipset motherboard. So there is no way at 133 MHz FSB the AGP bus will run in spec. However, most later BX boards had PCI dividers that allowed the PCI slots to run at 33 MHz at that FSB. Some video cards could handle the AGP overclock and some couldn't.

For an amateur like me , I think those are best left alone. Unless of course I had someone who knows what he is doing holding my hand all the way through it. The big thing was 4-bank interleave if your BIOS didn't have it. But with George Breese's little proggy, there's no need to use WPCredit for ...

which is best in terms of performance? and performance when OC'ed? thanks!!! can someone provide a link for a review comparing this two... thanks!!! I can't necessarily provide a link, but "Aces Hardware" and "Lost Circuits" both had a number of K6-x+ articles, some compared to regular K6-2s and K6...

George, do you know what Via MVP PCRS is or does ? And same regards Wpce PCI Configuration Editor ? They are files you load in WPCredit that changes some of the capabilities of the system. WPCredit and these pcr files deal with the hardware optimizations that are normally done in BIOS, but may not ...

SPD means that the RAM has a small chip which carries with it the specifications/timings of that memory. Motherboards can then have settings in BIOS which will read this information from the RAM module and automatically set timings to SPD default values (if you want). You can run CPU-Z from http://w...

You might try an older 4in1 driver set. I think viaarena has an alternate download for older Via chipsets. If that doesn't work, I would try to install the AGP drivers in 1X mode. This does nothing to really hinder performance on 500 MHz (or less) PCs. Back in the olden days at amdzone, this was the...

Update to the Forceware 56.xx and newer drivers problem, I have found that if I run the drivers in PCI mode, OpenGL games work but a little bit slower than in AGP 2x mode with the 53.81 Forceware drivers. Direct3D games still lockup in fullscreen mode but rolling back to the 53.81 drivers solve thi...
