Please be certain about what you are looking at with reference to sandra/cpupid. Are you looking at the CPU L2 cache...or the Motherboard External (L2) cache? I am aware that my current chip has no internal L2 cache. But I thought that the "motherboard" 512K cache would show up as either ...

Larry, I will stay away from Linux as I don't have any experience with it. I have to agree with EMP on staying with something I know. ie if the computer died I can just use a external USB case and connect it to my laptop. Not sure how long it would take for me to rebuild a linux/unix box? I just loo...

I can't really provide in-depth knowledge about the RAM but here goes. So from the NON technically results below when it comes to ram anecdotally the GigaByte GA 5AX using ALI V chipset is very tolerant. I have it running for three days One Hynix 256Mb 133Mhz Sdram (Labled) One Compaq 64Mb 100mhz Sd...

thanks EMP, but because I have a usb printer I require it to run on an os I am comfortable working with. I thought of linux but I am a newbie on it and it will be too much of a learning curb. I might downgrade the OS to WIN98SE. Currently it's running XP Pro. Here is a run down on specs. AMD K6-500 ...

Serial ATA (SATA) or IDE (PATA) -> PCI Controller on GA-5

Hel everyone,

Can anyone tell me if this will work?

I am trying to build a cheap NAS/Print server.

Thank you in advance.

Looking for either but would prefer a SATA solution.
