Windows 8 betas (up to the Preview version if I remember correctly) run quite well on an Athlon XP system. I guess if they don't check for SSE2 or NX, they should also run on a K-6 system...
I have a K6-III+ 550 MHz with 786 MB of RAM (not assembled at the moment), maybe I'll give it a try one day...

I wouldn't go for P4 in case of SDRAM memory, since NetBurst architecture depends highly on memory bandwidth and SDRAM here would be a huge drawback. I seriously doubt that 3.06GHz P4 could compete with ~2500MHz real clock Barton, especially equipped with SDRAM memory. AthlonXP has much different me...

DirectX does not contain OpenGL. It has D3D, but also many other components that are indeed needed by games that run in OpenGL mode (OpenGL only for graphics, sound and input still depends on DirectX). That is why you see DirectX along with the OpenGL games. The drivers for graphic cards contain bot...

DonPedro, I hope you noticed ExSys EX-3403 has no RAID function? Of course it's meaningless for MVP3, but card seems nice, you could probably use it in other systems as well. In your opinion, what is the highest sound card I could put into my MVP3 board that wouldn't degrade the performance? Yeah, 7...

It looks like a wrong DirectX driver optimalization then. If it's impossible to run these card on neither MVP3, AladdinV, nor SIS 530 boards, it must be a problem with compatibilty between the driver and AMD K6-2/III(+). Maybe nVidia doesn't keep the special 3DNow! optimalization for K6 systems anym...

Well, I did some research recently, as I'm building a maxed-out K6 system by myself, so that is what I found out: Personally I would avoid putting all-in-one card of this kind. All the controllers on the card are Bus Masters anyway, so it is much safer and flexible (but more expensive) to put separa...

There are some Via KT266A boards that have both 3.3V SDRAM and 2.5V DDR slots and they are the fastest SDRAM-driven boards ever built (faster than SIS 735 boards). I bought one for my sister to use the PC133 memory from the Celeron 500 MHz system - it was the MSI KT2 Combo: http://global.msi.com.tw/...

Hmmm, I'm a little bit confused. You concluded that no GeForce card can work on a K6-based system with 6x.00 or above drivers, but you presented in your 'Video card shootout' thread some results that you obtained for GeForce 2/2 MX using 71.84/82.16 drivers. How come? Anyway, I suspect that it's the...

GeForce 7900GS AGP 3.3V compatible?
I found out that the highest graphic card available for 3.3V AGP connector is Galaxy GeForce 7900GS AGP: http://www.gfe.com.hk/Product_Details.asp?id=137&class1=2&class2= Better pictures: http://www.SPAM.html Of course it's expensive and there's no way to use its potential on Socket 7 system...
