Re: WOW...I'm blown away, this site is STILL up!

Well, thanks for keeping it going. I have a K6III 400 I need to get up and going soon. I will be here for questions and results when done.

Re: AGP stability of SiS 5591 chipset

This is a little late, i come here just once in a while, but... The 5591 chipset is very good. I don't think there were any boards with this chipset that supported 100mhz, but the 75 and 83mhz were rock solid on the pci and AGP. Also, MSI was a very good brand that made 5591 chipset boards (that was...

Maybe or maybe not. But one day, XP will be way too old (it's certainly long in the tooth even now). Only a newer OS will make sense.

Will Vista or 7 operate on Socket 7 with any decency?

Anyone try Windows 7 on Socket 7 yet?

I imagine this might be difficult, since most Socket 7 never support past 512MB RAM, maybe very few support 768MB RAM. Perhaps an SSD would help, in such situation as low RAM.

Anyone try SSD on Socket 7 system yet?

I know people have tried SATA-IDE converters with SATA HDD drives.

Anyone jump right to SSD? Especially since many SSDs are low GB capacities, too.

BUT for some reason the 5.5 multip[lier works best with K6-3+ processors, (I suspect that these processors have been somehow optimized to work best with the 5.5 multiplier),
Hey Jim, does this also apply to regular K6-III's also?

Argh! That's too bad. If I remember correctly, that was one of the early HX based boards that supported 512MB (huge at the time) of 72pin ram, and was unofficially able to support the K6 line (which only came out about a year or two AFTER the board was RTM). I remember reading about putting a K6III ...

Can you post a pic of the battery section in question? There must be a way to fix that without sending it out.

Tetrium, Have you considered using 98Lite or XPlite? I never used them, but read about it a few times over the years. These were modular forms of 98 and XP where you could install/uninstall various features and components of Win98 or XP so that memory and CPU cycles were used more efficiently, thus ...

Nice old Full ATX Antec case for sale

For sale, a huge old school beige Antec Full ATX case that was in actual use at AMD's Sunnyvale headquarters back in March 2000. Originally housed a K6-II+ based system. Still in very good condition. Still have nice light beige color, not yellow. Would be great for a gaming case, server, or NAS. I h...

Anyone try "vLite" (Vista Lite) on Socket 7 system

I read this utility can get Vista from 15 GB down to just 1.5GB or even about 500MB, by selectively removing modules of Vista you don't need. If this utility could do this, would this would help Socket 7 systems use a more current MS OS? I would try it, but my Vista is 64 bit. http://www.pcmag.com/a...

Mmmm. OK, I didn't think about that. However, my board has 1MB L2 built-in. What is the cacheable limit of a system with 1MB?
