system call extension - EFER tab
Hi all, I saw an old post by KachiWachi where he mentioned that if you're using an NT-based system it's OK to enable SCE in the K6 registers. This setting can be found in WAmonitor EFER tab. I've selected this "system call extension" and window navigation, mouse movements, etc do seem a li...

OK, thanks for the info. It already feels like a big improvement. I just want to be able to do some basic browsing using FF4, and run utorrent at the same time. With 256 it was obviously thrashing, but I don't see that with 384. Actually, I have another board in the cupboard, an Iwill kk266-r - I'm ...

Well I opted for the low-cost solution. I looked into it a little more, this board can accept 384MB max (128 max per each of the three slots). My current config was 256MB, 2*128. I looked on ebay and purchased a used, CL2, 128MB stick for $1.49 delivered. Can't go wrong with that. It's in, and worki...

256 MB RAM, K6-3+ @ 550Mhz, Windows 2000 system cache
HI all, my K6+ Epox mvp3-GM still going strong, I use the box for light internet browsing, email, bit torrent, network share, etc, etc. One thing that bothers me, Windows 2000 uses up all it's memory on "system cache" when copying files over the network and/or downloading/uploading in bit t...

mvp3 mobo and the vlatency program.
Hello I've a dual boot system (win2k and win98) on a Epox mvp3gm running a k6-3+ @ 500Mhz. If I don't install George Breeses Vlatency program, both systems freeze after 10 - 15 minutes of desktop activity. Installing the program alleviates the problem completely. In Georges write-up for the program,...

Thanks Jim, email address forwarded. Last night, I tried a manual approach, ripped the whole ENUM key out of HKLM along with a few other places and all instances where I could see VIA. After rebooting, no devices attempted to install themselves. Device Manager was empty. I started the ball rolling b...

Help with 98SE and MVP3/Radeon
Hello, my old MVP3 box (Epox MVP3G-M 2MB BIOS) had to undergo surgery about 6 months ago, as it's 3DFX video card died. I replaced it with a Radeon VIVO 64MB I had sitting on the shelf. The machine is dual boot, 98SE and WIN2K. I found ATI Catalyst drivers 4.x on the Internet and installed them succ...
