radeon 8500LE 128mb or Geforce 3 Ti500 in GA-5AX

I've got a Rad 9100 working well in a GA-5AX, but had all sorts of probs with it in my GA-5AA....well documented in these forums! I now have a standard GF3 running in my GA-5AA, and I would say it's on a par with the Radeon, but without all the lockups. However the 9100 is running well in the GA-5AX...

Anyone heard of these before? Upgradeability.com have them listed. I presume they are designed to run 6 x 95MHz?

Radeon 9100

Guest, you're probably right, 200w is pretty weedy. I've got a 300w AT psu on its way through Ebay U.K., and I'll give the Rad another go sometime. It's only a 9100 though (sort of an 8500LE) and not the fully blown 9700, which is a guzzler. In the meantime a GF3 is working pretty well, so if the Ra...

Radeon 9100

Still no joy since starting this thread. My Radeon is however still running well in one of my kids' systems, which has the ATX version of my GA-5AA motherboard. It's still a mystery why the 9100 locks up in my system, because in many ways the two computers are so similar. To console me I've acquired...

Power Supply

Following some instability with a Radeon 9100 in my system, I'm thinking of changing my psu from the current 200w (-and old!) unit to something like 300w. The funny thing is a newly purchased GF3 appears to run fine (3100 points in 3d2001), with no apparent power probs. However my psu is several yea...

CTU cockup?

This radeon 8500/9100 saga in SS7 is getting to be quite diverse!

I'm like a dog with a bone.......and am still puzzling why a Rad 9100 works great in a GA5-ax (admittedly with a 300w psu and ME), but is too glitchy in a GA5-aa.

Both systems are running Rom M's CTU at startup, and I fo...

I too have had a gutful of farting around with a Radeon 9100 recently! One too many probs with my GA5-aa m/b, although the tantalising thing is the cards works acceptably well with a GA5-ax board! Possibly to do with power supplies, as mine is only 200w? There are various posts on this in "Gene...

Radeon 9100 update

After a couple of days of intensive testing in my Ga5-aa m/b (yeah I know it's sad to spend weekends like this!), I have come to the conclusion that this card is more suited to either a bigger power supply (my AT psu is only 200w), or maybe it prefers ME to my W98SE? Using the Cat 2.5's off the Sapp...

Radeon 8500/9100 in Socket 7

The plot thickens! Following initial problems with the Radeon in my GA-5aa, I successfully installed the card in my son's GA-5ax system. It's run for a couple of days without a hitch, and even gets through 3D2001 without problems.

I noticed the Radeon software still changed the Ali AGP Center...

Radeon 8500/9100 in Socket 7

Radeon 8500/9100 in Socket 7

Thanks for you input, much appreciated. I've now got my 9100 to replace the trusty GF2Ti, but what God-awful problems! Firstly the Radeon drivers didn't want to install, but eventually got to try a couple of drivers: off the Sapphire CD and also some later 3.1's. 3D2001 kept cutting back to desktop,...

Radeon 8500/9100 in Socket 7

Many thanks for your comments, guys. Seems like the agp 1.0 spec is no problem, but I'm wondering about Sandells' comment about the operating system. I'm currently on W98SE and have an upgrade disk for ME. Is the agp acceleration thing a problem, unless you use W2k or XP?

The Radeon "9X&...

Radeon 8500/9100 in Socket 7

There's been a lot of talk of Radeons in Socket 7 on this site and also AMDzone, and I would welcome comments on any specific successes or problems with Gigabyte ga-5aa or ga-5ax motherboards?

I've mainly gone the Nvidia route in the past, and have been pleased with my GF2ti. Re:Gigabyte Ga-5ax voltage setting

Is your board a real old version? Mine has the 8 switches. 1, 2 and 3 set the multiplier. Switches 4 - 8 do the cpu voltage. On my board for 2.0v, switch 4 is off, and 5, 6, 7, and 8 are all on.
