Hooked up Superpuppy 1 last night, (K6-2 550+ on FIC VA503+ w/ 512 Meg Ram), and encountered one problem after another. Managed to get DOS 622 to boot, found a Windows 3.1 Partition, but couldn't get it to boot, found a WINNT4 partition but couldn't get it to boot, etc. Possible reasons : 1) Needs n...

I used to use Win98-SE -- WinXP-PRO dual boots on my DFI machine. You can find how I did it here : http://www.k6plus.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=1275&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 Though again you have to scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the down...

Right now I am in the process of trying to fix Sonja's computer which her son screwed up severely. Once that is done, I will hook up my FIC-VA103+ machine, (Win NT4) and try runing directX diag and see what happens. I will also check the bios to see if there are AGP settings with the bios I am using...

One thing about the FIC VA-503+ is you have to set the AGP setting to 1x, NOT 2X or 4X.

Windows 98-SE will recognize however much RAM you install, BUT it will only use 261,xxx Kilobytes in my experience, - unless you install "The Unofficial Service Pack", which raises the limit on RAM that Win98-SE can USE to 4 Gig. You can download the Unofficial Service Pack for Win98-SE HE...

We'll see. I should have given you a link to this post before. http://www.k6plus.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=1488&highlight=hynix The key thing is Hynix designations end in "H" if the RAM is CL3 and end in "K" if the RAM is CL2, - (which is preferable)

I am not sure about the error you are encountering. All I can say about the FIC VA-503+, is that they don't just require RAM that can pass run of the mill tests. They require EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH QUALITY RAM, because the boards settings are so close to the limits, that they will cause normal RAM to ge...

I used to use 200 Watt AT supplies with my K6 Machines, except for one which got a 300 Watt AT supply; - (of which I still have 2 brand new unused ones). Re RAM speed bear in mind that you can overclock these things. If you use a K6Plus processor, most of them will hit 600 MHz with no problem. They ...

What brand is the RAM ? If the chips have "MT" on them, it is junk. It will work ok in an ASUS P5A-B with an ALi chipset, but not in any MVP3 board. Re adjusting the RAM settings, all you can do to make your existing RAM more stable is slow down the timings, adjusting things one at a time ...

RE: FIC VA-503+ revisted

One thing worth checking is your RAM. Kyle Brant, the author of "K6Speed", (the program in the download section that allows you to adjust your speed in MHz without having to open up your machine and mess with jumpers), Used an FIC VA-503+, and he said that that board is so borderline on it...

Might also add that the way I have this machine setup, makes it SUPER RELIABLE . It has 4 HDDs, 2 of which are internal SATA drives, mounted in my home made ducted fan cooling setup. These, (Disks 3 & 4 in the photo below), are each divided into 5 partitions. Disk 3 has an XP boot partition call...

RE: Manual

I did a search for that manual, and found a number of sites claiming to have it, but they want you to install some toolbar to download it.

Eric, I found when using a normal K6-2 processor, that in order to get video to play smoothly, I had to : 1) Use CL2 SDRAM prefferably 512 or 768 meg thereof. 2) Have the processor running at 550 MHz - (5.5 x 100 MHz) because for some reason you get much better memory performance using the 5.5 x mul...
