@#$%* Damn, took a look tonight at my supposedly " NEW " VA-503+ that I had stashed away for a few years and all the capacitors around the CPU socket are bulging out at the top with several of them leaking. Was hoping to test this board out finally. Maybe someday when I'm bored I'll solder some new ...

Who's collecting Super7 hardware?

Just out of curiosity I decided to blow the dust off of some old hardware I got laying around to take stock on what I've collected over the years. Here's a few of the socket 7 CPU's I've found, I may have some more CPU's still seated in motherboards.... AMD AMD-K6-2/300AFR-66 AMD-K6-2/333AFR AMD-K6-...

I never ran a FIC VA-503+, but I did acquire one a few years ago brand new. It's still sitting in the box here at home. That board was one of the most difficult to acquire on Ebay without paying a fortune for it due to all the bidding wars over one. I started collecting Super7 hardware a few years a...

3 of them ? He has had this problem w/ 3 different mobos. Just throwing darts at the problem like everyone else but why not? Take a business for example that owns a batch of identical computers in their office that suffer identical failures over time. His motherboards are over 10 years old now. Ano...

Welcome back jsc1973. Nice to see some life on this forum.
Made for some OEM would get my vote. Can't really find too much reliable info on this CPU.

Here's another link with the K6-2 337:

With everything equal and with a k6-3 450 and 128Mb of RAM the Aladdin5 boards are quicker than the MVP3 boards. The 512k onboard L2 or L3 (with a K6-3 CPU) on the Aladdin5 boards is what hurt them limiting the amount of cacheable RAM to 128MB or 256MB on later revisions. Then the later revisions ha...

My guess is the motherboard is beginning to fail. Any capacitors look bulged or leaking? You could try running Memtest86 from a DOS floppy disc and look for errors. Memory settings may be too aggressive. http://www.memtest86.com/download.html You may try removing your memory sticks and reseat them i...

This is a pic I borrowed from the auction of the K6-2 337AFR. These ran at the 75 FSB (4.5x75). Up until now I had only thought Cyrix made CPU's to run on the 75 FSB.

Was doing a little browsing tonight and found a few links which show Windows 7 actually runs quite well on older systems. http://forum.thewindowsclub.com/windows-hardware-devices/28053-windows-7-dinosaur-2.html http://www.pcworld.com/article/166992/windows_7_hits_a_new_low.html?loomia_ow=t0:s0:a41:g...

K6-2 337AFR

Greetings everyone. It's been awhile since I've posted anything. The wife and kids consume nearly all my time now. I still have all of my socket 7 hardware and one of these days I'll get back to it when time allows.... Seen this odd CPU while browsing Ebay recently, an AMD K6-2 337AFR!!! Just when y...

Stranger and Stranger!! When first built the machine, when cold, invariably took 3-4 attempts before it would boot into Windopes. Now 5 out of the last 6 times, it has booted straight up when cold. What do you guys think is the cause of all this? Maybe burn-in or break-in or regular use.... BTW, Ni...
