Is your K6-III+ system known to be stable at your selected speed (550/600MHz)? What processor are you working with? System specs?

Ooops..

The second card that I pointed to by way of link should have been MadDog's nVidia FX5500, not the FX5200.

I am running a PC based on the EPoX EP-MVP3G2 board and (currently) a K6-III+ 400ATZ. Based upon the MVP3 chipset, my APG slot is AGP 1.0 specs. However, I am using an nVidia-based AGP card that calls for an AGP 2.0 slot. (See this link: http://www.maddogmultimedia.com/products/graphics/mx400agp.asp...

What CPU speed are you running at?

See this AGP issue: http://www.win98central.com/forums/prin ... .php?t=724

Also, what is your power supply rating?

Start with a FSB of 100MHz and try your various board multipliers - 5 and 5.5 (500MHz and 550MHZ CPU speeds) should be attainable. If all is stable on 2.0V, try for 600MHz - you will probably have to increase the core voltage to 2.1V or so at this point.

Then try upping the FSB.

Have fun!

My first SS7 mobo was based on the SiS530 chipset. I really liked the PnP CPU BIOS, but hated the lack of FSB higher than 100MHz and the memory bandwidth. The 450ACZ K6-III+ ran 600MHz on that board and I think it could have gone higher if there had been a higher selection of FSB. EPoX boards are go...

If I am remembering a post in another BBS from Jan (BIOSMAN), his comment was that I would need ~100MHz more in a K6-2+ CPU speed to match a K6-III+ CPU's performance because of the CPU cache size difference. (CRAP!! That sounds confusing even to me - and I wrote it! What I mean is that a K6-2+ 600M...

The EPoX boards for SS7 (EP-MVP3C2, EP-MVP3G-M, EP-MVP3G2, EP-MVP3G5 to name a few) sometimes show up on eBay. Probably on other auction sites, as well. I have a "retirement home" for these EPoX boards (having several of each of those mentioned above) where they can live out their golden y...

KachiWachi,

I omitted the "SBI" on the chip markings.

I suppose that there is no software/hardward solution to the 125MHz FSB cap?

Hi Jim, At 5.5 x 112MHz the PC will complete POST, but BSODs at W2k loading. That is farther than it would go previously. Still running the mobo L2 and RAM timings set to fastest settings. Maybe if I play around with timings and the mobo L2 something will improve. (Don't really expect anything to ha...

KachiWachi,

I think that this is the TAG chip markings:
SB61L256B-8
W83194R-58

Currently running at 112MHz FSB x 5 = 560MHz speed. The mobo L2 is enabled, until I can get the RAM issues sorted out. :x

Yes, I am using CPUCool as the Windows FSB adjuster (Thanks, Jim!).
