k6-2+ 550acr

I havent been round here much, but have bought one of these. They seem reasonably priced to me :> http://cgi.ebay.com/K6-2-550-MHz-SOCKET-7-100-WORKING_W0QQitemZ260309668522QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item260309668522&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 ...

Hadn't thought about it. (I'm not much of an ebay-er, obviously). I had a look at ebay.com.au but they only have Voodoo 2. There *is* a PCI Geforce4, but someones got an auto bid on it that beat me down :<. Oh yeah... My card was actually a Voodoo 4 4500. When i bought it from a city 2nd hand shop t...

Voodoo 3 r.i.p

Sadly, my Voodoo 3 died. I gave it a work out before i installed a 630CF (SiS 630) into a nice case. It seemed fine, multitasking a video player and quake demo for half an hour. Playback was pretty smooth - not perfect, but close enough considering it was only with a 1GHz celeron. It was only after ...

I'm afraid 100fsb is it for me. I've never had joy any higher as i dont have any plus chips, just K6/2-500 and a K6/3-400. > wouldn't it be possible to "extract" the hw-monitoring > code from the old-bios and transplant it into the new > bios? I think steunebrink could have the technical >...

Hmmm, read the thread.. Congrats on a big benchmarking event. I gathered that the ga-5smm is much better than the soyo model... But I'm still curious how this board stacks up against the mvp3 and alladin chipsets (at <100 fsb).
And whether the ga-5smm is the best SIS SS7 board.

GA-5SMM overhaul

[Hmmm... i see theres already a 5smm forum.. It's 13! pages long ... sorry for not posting there.] I got a totally crazy box to fix the other day. It was a cyrix-II 333 (75x3.5=263) on a nice micro ATX SS7 board, a Gigabyte 5SMM. It had a busted powersupply, which i replaced, and it then tried to bo...

Do I ever get bored with being wrong?
This board is still not booting cleanly - memory wasn't the problem.

S7 the most fun, but slack at games

My wish is that AMD and Intel never forked their motherboard bases, or multiplier locked their cpus' - which was a fairly cynical move. The fun about S7 is taking your friends still needed P166 and supercharging it to around 500hz with a couple of jumper changes and a new CPU and perhaps memory. My ...

Hmm.. USB problems might be another issue I think. In my experience
some boards/usb-disks/drivers just aren't compatible. And the actual disks
don't last forever.

Fixed

Appears I've solved this problem ;-) and the solution wasn't so hard. Because this is my only DDR board, I never had the chance to swap the memory out. But, (to play the Q4 demo, *cough*) I bought another stick of 256 DDR266, and had been using it for a few weeks when it occured to me to pull out th...

Ax59pro dropped bits in file transactions

I used a ax59pro as my main box for a year but got a bit annoyed with a slight bug the it had somewhere in the ide controller. With a 20 gig HDD, I never had problems with corrupt files, but I ~was~getting discrepancies in the md5sums! When I looked into it, Somewhere along the line a bit or two was...

Update.. Spoke too soon. It's winter here now, and the board is taking more tries (on average) to boot up.. And starting to p*** me off. I actually pulled the whole thing apart.. reseating the cpu and all jumpers, without any change - though I enjoyed getting my hands dirty on a socket 478 chip. :ro...

(Caveat: I'm no apple expert: (and we're fairly off topic ;->)) The thermal zones are just partitions inside the case that allow for individual fans to cool separate zones or parts, especially the cpu. And like everything apple does with Steve Jobs, it's just well designed, I think. > Perhaps you co...
