thanks for that tip Jim, cpu cool looks pretty slick. It even managed to control fsb on my Nforce3. :D I have to figure out which temps are what. Is it worth paying for the upgrade on cpu cool?

What OS is your K6/socket 7 system running on?

Just curious about what OS folks run around here. Any problems running XP or 2k?

ok well back to software tweaks since that's where we are...

Is there something that is the equivalent of clockgen for K6 stuff? I guess softfsb is the closest thing?

What works the best for temp monitoring? Motherboard monitor? Speedfan?

to be completely honest KW, no I have not. Shoot me a link to something like what you are talking about, it would be interesting to take a look at one. What would I hope to gain from one? when overclocking memtest+ (or goldmemory) is considered good enough to test ram by detecting errors. Does that ...

I just joined, :D . Just a quick question, would this be a good "burn in" program?

Just learning the basics.
If you are going to burn-in use hot cpu tester.

Prime95 should run on older era PCs, maybe mersenne prime on UBCD?

Keeping things cool isn't a cure-all. Timing requirements must still be met. If they aren't, then you can't go that fast. Thanks. No its not a cure-all, but heat is the #1 enemy of the overclocker (other than stupidity  ) What are you meaning by timings KW? Ram timings or keeping the bus speed...

Hard to say Jim, all my thoughts are purely theortical at this point in the game. It's not as if chipset coolers are hard to come by though. http://www.svc.com/chipset-cooler.html or for ramsinks and sinks for mosfets http://www.jab-tech.com/Motherboard-Chipset-cooling-c-225.html I don't know how fa...

spd on the whole is pretty useless, it's a rough guideline at very best. SPD only reflects what the ram manufactuer believes the ram will run at across the board. @Jim: well if you can run the fsb at 150 and the ram at 133 or 100..then you might have something. Depending on your results. @KW: synchr...

For the RAM, SPD usually takes care of that. The chipset should follow what the SPD tells it to do...assuming it has the capabilities to do so timing-wise. As for other settings, those will depend on the combination you actually have there. You can surely run the CPU and RAM at different speeds...i...

SETI team

Doesn't look like the SETI team is very active. I see Nohr still carrying on, but that's about it.

Seems SETI doesn't mind older PCs like F@H does... no interest from the more active members or the PCs just don't stay on?

EDIT : @ The Emp : You can do that, (run the processor and RAM at different speed rates), with at least some VIA chipset boards. I know the DFI can do that. I know that's not the optimal way to run a chipset but it can give some ideas of what a processor or ram is truly capable of. Thanks for the t...
