Yet another web-design question: tiny little icon doohickey

Post by His Royal Majesty King V »

Ok, I know this SHOULD be a simple one....

But on a number of web-pages, I notice a very tiny icon that shows up in the URL box, popping up in front of the URL text.

What is that called, and what HTML code puts that icon there?

That's called a favicon. First create the image you want to use. 16x16 is the standard size though 32x32 usually works, and 256 colors.

Convert your image to the .ico format. IrfanView is free and should be able to do it. Name your image favicon.ico and then simply upload it to your webspace's main directory.

The icon should show up now. If not you may have to clear your browser's cache.
