Superpuppy Photos

Post by Jim »

K, so I took some photos (17). First order of business, is to determine what resolution, filesize, and picture size are the best compromise between clarity, detail, and manageability. Thinking of dialup users and server space here. My camera is a p.o.s. polaroid, which is incapeable of shooting closeups; but my scanner is an Epson Perfection 3710 that can go up to 12000 x 12000 resolution, (which is higher than my computer can support, because it craps out at 10000 x 10000), generating picture files over 1 gig in size, and I do have image enhancing software; so the finished result is so-so.

Second order of business is : Given that I want to type descriptions of what is in the photos, what do I do? Create a single file w/ everything in it then post it?, Or do I start a post here, alternating between typed description and photos entered by TAZ's method, (Which I still have not tried, and am not sure how to do.)

If the latter, it is likely to be a very messy post, with a whole lot of editing before I get it right.

I'd say 800x600 or 1024x768 would be good. You should be able to get JPG files of that resolution to under 100KB each easily.

You can use a free service such as ImageShack to host your images online. Once you've got that done you'd simply link to each photo using the forum's IMG tags which will display them in your post. Then type your comments by each image. I figure that's the simplest method.

Feel free to ask if you need more help.

There are 3 of them in the shots. But only Superpuppy 3 has the ducted fan setup. (Superpuppy 4 has it too; but it is not in the pics, cause it isn't finished yet.) Well here goes nothing. will start a new post, and see how it goes. Do I post my pics to this other site first before I start, or as I go?

BTW, thanks Nohr, just converted bmp files to jpegs and watched the size drop from over 1Meg down to 50 - 100 odd kb. Lossy format though. Will cause deterioration of pic quality.

Edit: Well I figured out how to post my pics to "Imageshack"; but getting them from there to here has me befuddled thus far. Help please.

JPG is perfectly acceptable, lossy and all. You're not planning on printing the things or anything.

Throw each of your Imageshack links between the forums IMG tags.

Example:
[img]http://imageshack.us/mypic.jpg[/img]
This is mypic.

[img]http://imageshack.us/mypic2.jpg[/img]
This is mypic2.

etc.

Thanks again Nohr, the method I was using was over complex. Will try what you said. My problem w/ Jpegs is you lose detail. Fine lines actually anti alias right out of existance w/ minimal processing. Just blur away to nothing.

I don't know if your photo editing program allows for it but you can alter the JPG compression level. I can usually find a setting that allows for minimal image degradation while still shrinking the file size considerably.
