WPCREDIT v1.4
Has anyone translated the readme.txt into English?
If someone can host the file on their website, the online translators can translate it (roughly) for you.
Just add the following to the file, and save it as "WPCREDIT_Readme.txt.html" (or something like that) and tell us the link -
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=x-sjis">
<title>WPCREDIT Readme.txt file</title>
<meta name="Microsoft Border" content="none, default">
</head>
- Insert readme.txt here -
</html>
I did this for the WAMonitor readme files when I was on my old ISP, and it worked just fine. (The files still exist BTW...they haven't killed the website yet, though I can no longer post to it).
Perhaps K6Plus can host?

That doesn't work, because it doesn't understand that the characters are Japanese (been there...tried that...did you?).

Afraid I can't help you w/ that. If you do manage to get a translation though, I would be interested in having a copy. Also would be interested in joining H. Oda's site; but can't figure out how to do that either. Figure he would have more PCR Files than anybody else. Would like to get the one for the "649 Raid Controller". Probably go quite nice w/ my CMD649.

I was able to get a friend to host the file for a quick translation...unfortunately I forgot to use the "technical" translation, and it didn't understand part of the file. But I have a partial translation that I'm parsing out for clarity.
So far, nothing of value to report...

In addition, I was fooling around with the PCR files, and have created one for the nVIDIA RIVA 128ZX, which is similar to my VANTA / VANTA LT.
It is not hard to create one from scratch...all you need is a "map" of the PCI Configuration space (hex dump)...the rest is just text editing. Getting the "map" however...THAT is the tricky part.
Some items are in "standard" locations per the PCI Bus Specification. However, the rest of the space can be used at the manufacturers discretion...

Couple of "Q"s : First is WPCredit the same program you worked w/ before? Second perhaps you could give a more detailed explanation of how you go about "Creating" PCR Files; there are some I don't have that I would like to have. Nother "Q" actually, is now that you have tried WPCredit, what do you think of it?

The Google translator didn't work either. I don't think that any "cut and paste" translator will work...unless you are pasting the EXACT Japanese characters into the translator.
This is why hosting the file works...as the translator does that for you automagically.
Jim -
No...it wasn't. I forget the name of the one I used before, but it was DOS-based. I could find it if you really want to know the name.
WPCREDIT works fine, and is fairly intuitive. You just have to know what registers you are changing, and what the available options are. If you don't have a PCR file, you just have to go back and forth from the chipset datasheet to see what you are doing.
The part of the translation that "messed up" dealt with writing PCR files. It appears that the bracketing you use tells the program if the registers are readable and/or writable, but for the most part you just edit in the base register and offset, then add text commenting (50 characters) for what that particular bit does.
WPCREDIT *seems* to let you write to any register, but if the one you write to is read-only, I doubt it will have any effect (I haven't tried this though to see what happens).

I did. Accidentally to a "Reserved" setting, it changed, and I benched it for a small gain, before I realized what I had done and reset it where it belonged. Though I would also note that there are some settings that you cannot change. i.e. "Devsel Timing", tried to reset that from medium to fast; and what happened was the change appeared to take place; but when I looked at the setting again, it had gone back to medium.

"Reserved" is one thing..."read-only" is another.
I tried it just for fun...the registers did not change.
In any case...still looking for a "home" to re-translate the file again.

Ah the subtleties of politeness. You can be very polite. I'll ask him if it isn't going to entail a lot or long lasting aggravation for him. He's a nice guy.
