What Video Card are you Using?

Post by NubsG »

I've got four K6-II+ /450's

Two are in Asus P/I-P55T2P4's with PCI 16 MB 3D Blaster Banshees. Centipede and Unreal looked great with it, Quake II was so-so. The variaton in performance between the two Banshee boards is amazing - one has nice rich colors, the others look like they've been through the wash a few times. I have never been able to get them to match, and they're both connected to VewSonic A75s's.

The TXP4 has a PCI ATI Xpert128; I put this in so that I could make use of a DVD when it was still a 233 MMX. Good basic all around performance.

The P5A-B has a CardExpert GeForce2 MX with 32 MB. This is the best card I've eve used - Agent's text looked good at 1152 x 864, and Soldier of Fortune I ran with no problems. Get NVMax for tweaking the settings. This card has been in PC World's Top 10 for a long time, and with good reason.

Switched to a Visiontek GF2GTS-V, which overclocks from 175/286 to 192/325 and got me back to about the 8,000 range in 3DMark. Actually not too bad for $49, even if I'm not a big nVidia fan.

Compaq Presario 1273, AMD K6-III+ 450@400MHz 1.8v, 40GB Samsung 5400RPM, extremely hacked Win98SE, 288 (yes, 288!) MB RAM
(Also an AMD FX-8350, which does the heavy lifting these days...)

Post by shadow »

I use a GeForce 2mx 200/32MB in my K6-2/500, a TNT2 M64/32MB in my K6-3+/600 and a TNT2 Ultra/32MB in my PII/350, all AGP. My other 3 system's cards arent worth mentioning....4MB PCI's either ATi or Cirrus.

Still love those Voodoo5 cards in SS7 machines. The CPU can't drive the VSA-100s at full power, but you can get playable framerates on just about any DX7 games, plus you get FSAA for free thanks to the second VSA-100 that the CPU can't make good use of.

Besides, nVidia is evil...getting them out of my machine before long.

you bitch!

My 4200 died so I'm looking to replace it. But I struggle with the cost of the high/midrange cards. I'd like to see the 9500 get to around $100 or the 4200 drop to around $80. There just doesn't seem to be a whole lot of movement in that sector. Oh well. at least I have my good old voodoos to fall back onto until then.
