How many are using K6-X as their MAIN system to log onto the Internet Daily AND do their daily work (Banking, SpreadSheets, DataBase, Digital Photo's, Listening to Tunes/Ripping) ??

Just Sign in with your Nick and Processor, Thats all.

Still plugging away at 550 MHz here...

Yes, my two systems are both K6III+'s at 550, but only the Mobile Gaming Rig is in use at the moment (desktop system in storage).

I have 6 K6-x's in my household that I fully intend to run into the grave.

1 K6-3 450 (in rev 1.06 ASUS P5AB)
1 K6-2 500 (in other rev 1.06 ASUS P5AB)
2 K6-3+ 450 (FIC VA-503+)
2 K6-2+ 450 (FIC VA-503+)

These machines are used to do 90% of all computing around here. I do have one Athlon XP 1500 in an ASUS A7A266 but predictably it's not as stable as the K6+ systems. I use that one for occasional gaming and other multimedia purposes, it resides in the living room and is hooked up to the TV/VCR/Stereo.

With a main system that is a K6-III 333 @ 350, and my "big" system is a K6-2+ 450 @ 500.

The K6-2+ is actually "under-volted" to 1.9 instead of the default core 2.0. Tried getting it to work at 550 at 2.0V, and LOTS of MMX errors . . but none whatsoever at 500. Then tried at 1.9V just for yuks (since I couldn't get more speed out of it anyway), and again, no errors at 500MHz.

I figure if it's 100% stable at a lower-than-stock voltage, so much the better to prolong CPU life.

Next I gotta see if I can get that system down to JUST the PS fan . . it's got a weird setup where the fan on an inner wall inside the case (still within the PS) rather than at the back exhaust end of the PS, and draws air into the PS and pushes it out the back vent. Maybe I can use that big honkin' heatsink I ripped off a Compaq K6-2 350, get a duct going from it to the PS fan (very short distance), and keep things cool with just the PS fan. Heck, with just that and the little CPU fan, the case temp is about 70 deg farenheit....

K6-X For the Family

Post by Lankshire »

My main system is a 450 MHz K6-3+ running at 600 MHz on a Epox MVP3G-5 mobo with 512Mb of Ram. I usually up the clock to 618 Mhz (6 x 103 FSB) with CPUFSB when I'm playing games to get the most performance. I run Office XP, PhotoSuite 4, Q3A, UT, and RTCW regularly and the system runs great.

I set my wife up to with a 450 K6-3 at 500 MHz on a Epox MVP3G-M with 384 Mb or RAM. It runs fine for her. She doesn't notice any performance delays and she uses DragonNaturally Speaking set at the highest performance level.

Our laptop is a Compaq Presario 12XL125. It has a 533 Mhz K6-2+ running at 550 using the MVP4 chipset with 192 Mb of RAM.

All my systems work great and I've had so many years to perfect and optimize the use of the MVP3 and MVP4 chipsets (including the register tweaks with WPCREDIT), they run every application I throw at them. The K6s still rock with Office applications. I haven't had to upgrade my CPU since I purchased my K6-3+ back in October of 2000. I'm sure I'm bound to upgrade, but probably not until next year... so I can play DooM3 and UT2. :-p

My "work" machine is a k63+/600 (Soyo 5ehm) running win98 and the second work machine in the house is a k63+/550 (FIC 503+) running win98se. My firewall/ICS machine is a k62+/570 (Jbond vg5c or pci500pa) running win2k. BUT, my gaming machine is a k7s5a/1.4g tbird (hehe).
Best regards,Kyle

K6-3+ here

I go for quantity, not speed. 5 computers on the lan in my house and MY main system is a K6-3+/450@600.
I've also got a P1/233, PII/350, P1 166, and a K6-2/500.
Still bugs me that the PII 350 almost outdoes mine in UT.
