Hey IO333, I anticipated your need a while ago...

Post by Mr Toastz »

On the front page of our site, down the right hand side, you should see a (probably blocked) picture with some text below it that says:

Crucial Technology
Memory Upgrades

A little below that you should see another (probably blocked) picture with text below it that says
Cyberguys.com
Discount Prices
on thousands of
computer accessories
and supplies!

If you can see those text links, feel free to click on them also. They will do the same as the banner ads do, i.e. keep track that you came from the K6Plus site when visiting Crucial or Cyberguys. That way if you choose to buy something, we will get credit for the sale.

Let me know if you are able to see them...

There is no discount however. We just get a percentage of the purchase price for referring customers.

One thing I've thought of is removing all the ads and throwing them together on a sponsors page or something. Right now they're just wasting space anyway cause no one ever buys anything through them. This way they wouldn't irritate anyone, and they'd still be around on the offchance someone wanted to buy something.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Athlon Thunderbird 1GHz@1.35GHz (9x150)
Iwill KK266
256MB Crucial PC133 CAS2 5-2-2
Gainward GeForce3 Ti200 4ns 231/524
Gateway EV910 19" monitor (1600x1200 .26mm)
Western Digital WD800JB 80GB 7200rpm
Lite-On 24/10/40x CD-RW ~ Toshiba 16/48x DVD-ROM
Windows XP Professional

Just to clarify, Nohr...

Post by Mr Toastz »

I believe that IO333 is referring to the 10% online discount that Crucial offers to all web customers (it's at the top of their page when you go there).

I got 2 questions on this whole bit . .

1) Why the hellbent banning of people from the forums for pointing out the mistake?

2) Um, is there something about Tom's Hardware that I'm missing? Sure, he seems to throw in his opinions sometimes here and there, but people are acting like he writes fiction rather than hardware reviews. What gives?

To add to this latter point, the recent bit about Nforce2 boards. Tom's said that they were very stable. People said not to trust Tom's and pointed to the HardOCP reference which stated more or less that "they'd PROBABLY be unstable because they're early releases and should be given time to mature" but without actually testing and saying that they've run into stability problems.

I'm not saying HardOCP was lying in this case, they're just stating what the general trend is, but if Tom's ran the tests and didn't have stability problems, people are going to discount that just because he said it?

I mean, isn't it conceivable that the chipset was done right the first time? Maybe they just decided to be extra cautious?

I'm not really going out of my way to defend Tom's, but I've been reading his site for a couple of years, and don't quite see where the anti-Tom mentality came from.
--------------------
FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-2+ 450 @ 500 1.9V

FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-III 333 @ 350 2.2V

Acer Quasi-proprietary Mid-Tower with P-II 266

My decision to not read Toms stems back to a little ongoing spat the THG site had with another site. I decided that both sites were being unprofessional with their public discussion of this issue and stopped reading both for the most part.

In regards to point 1)

a) Posting a typo is dumb. And would make them feel stupid, but that would pass and they would not be afraid to admit to a once off mistake.

b) Saying that you ran the test multiple times and couldn't believe the result, still posting it and then having someone point out later that you left the machine oveclocked when you ran the test, is REALLY dumb. But you would have a laugh about it then drown your sorrows at the cyber pub.

c) The fact that they did all they could to wipe the fact from the internet the moment they were caught makes it obvious that this is more than just a typo.

They Deliberately tried to mislead people. THen tried to cover it up. Needless to say they were not very bright. I thought Kyle was smart but obviously he has no idea what composure is. He could have used either of the two more obvious excuses (a & b) above, and noone would have been the wiser.

Reminds me of the expression:
"Methinks he doth protest too much."

They made such a big deal out of it that it's obvious there is more to it.

2) The only reason you don't understand THG Bashing is because you haven't done it. Try it, it's fun! Hey Blue! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Either way they are getting lots of publicity.

I would think Kyle should be at Comdex now? God that would be hard to take after this debacle! I would think his enemies will be heckling him worse than usual, and now he has made more. To have to answer the same questions over and over...heh. The coverup is usually worse than the crime.

Whats this about THG Bashing? I don't read there stuff due to there benchmark scores being 100% different then anyone elses on the net and almost all of the time in favor of intel, that added with what I have read all over the net about them it just seems to make since not to go to toms any more.
Why read a review you dont know if you can trust its a waste of time.
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
athlon XP 1.4ghz@1.85ghz(11.5x160)
Iwill KK266plus
256mb Ram@160mhz
4.1 home made sound system
Radeon 8500 310/350
20GB/20GB/10GB 7200rpm ata100 harddrives(western digital)
Windows XP pro
Yamaha 16x10x40 burner
Soundblaster Live! 5.1 OEM
