Drive imaging, for HD to HD?
All,

Is there any sort of free software about that will do an exact duplication of one hard drive to another?

To wit, I want to install a larger drive. My plan is to install the new HD, therefore drive C is the first partition on the old drive and drive D is the first partition of the new drive.

So I want something that will copy drive C exactly to drive D, so that I can boot the OS, and everything is exactly intact.

Then I remove the old drive. Thus what was drive D becomes drive C, and thus I can boot up from it, etc. All drivers and existing software in place, etc.

Anything available that will fit in my $0 budget? Even if it's only a trial period, as long as it does the job once, that's all I need.

--------------------
FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-2+ 450 @ 500 1.9V

FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-III 333 @ 350 2.2V

Acer Quasi-proprietary Mid-Tower with P-II 266

You could D/L a "Trialware" version of Norton Ghost Enterprise edition <a href="http://enterprisesecurity.symantec.com/ ... . I have a freeware drive copy utility at home as well. I'll see if I can find that later.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub70.ezboard.com/bk6plus67153.s ... lvihill at: 11/23/02 11:07:32 pm

Xcopy wont do it all
xcopy can do files only. doesn't do partitions and boot sectors.

You might want to check any motherboard installation CD's you might have. It's not uncommon to find Norton Ghost as an included utility.
