blue just called IBM a punk hacker... lol

Remember, IBM is a big supporter of Linux!

As long as you understand what you have lost, and what is at stake when using M$ products, and can accept that, well you made the choice.

Just so you understand why so many of us rail against M$. Just because something is the 'best' performance wise doesn't mean it's the best option overall.

As a similar example, witness how the US is 'stepping backwards' on energy policy, and tell me in 10 years we won't regret it...

There really is a better browser than IE

Post by io333 »

I go back and forth. The main reasons I keep going back to windowsXP from Linux are:

1. Windows is a faster UI than KDE3

2. The overall UI of Windows is better. What I mean by that is that all the little mouse clicks are intuitive in XP, whereas in KDE3 even just a simple cut and paste operation can often take twice as many clicks.

What 1 and 2 above boil down to is that when I need to "get real work done right now (tm)" I boot immediately back to windows because I know it will take me the least amount of time to accomplish a specific task.

As for the other GUIs that linux has, I don't think they realistically compare to windows in terms of their feature sets.

Is there really only one optimum GUI?

Post by feizex »

Are you saying that Linux has to mirror the windows UI to be efficient or is more a matter of user training and bit of process optimisation?

Could they get by having a standard UI and a windows "emulation" UI? Or would they get sued by M$?

I use the Mac OS for most stuff these days...

Post by Mr Toastz »

We run OS9 here (we use specialty software that hasn't caught up with OSX yet), and I am more comfortable in the Mac environment than the Windows environment. Note that we have multiple buttons and scroll wheels on the mice here...

This especially applies to Photoshop and Quark stuff!!!

And don't get me started on just how easy it is to convert .wav to .mp3 on a mac...
