Interesting day... acquired K6III 450 and Epox MPV3G2...

Post by Mr Toastz »

I went to one of the local computer stores -www.nfcomputers.com - today in search of a junked MicroATX case for my second portable desktop system. He initially didn't think he had one, but then remembered he was gutting an old HP/Compaq thingie... and he gave the case to me instead of the dumpster!
The backplane will be perfect for my next rig, and the wiring is intact (even had a floppy), but I digress...

Anyways, I showed him our website (K6Plus) while explaining to him what nefarious plans I had for the poor defenseless case, and he mentioned he still had some old Socket 7 CPUs that he couldn't find motherboards for...

Upon searching through his drawers, we came across a K6III 450 (either AFX or AHX, cpu not handy at moment), which I picked up for $20. I figure even if the CPU doesn't work, the case alone would have cost me a lot more than $20 to buy (and ship) online!

He also handed me an Epox MPV3G2, which was a system pull. He said the board was replaced due to a defect, but on the off chance it was a bad port or something I may try to fire it up sometime soon...

If the K6III 450 works, I plan to give it away on the site here (for anyone looking to upgrade from a K62 or something...). Keep your fingers crossed!

I'm less optimistic about the board, but if it works I'll let you guys know!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub70.ezboard.com/bk6plus67153.s ... rtoastz>Mr Toastz at: 12/11/02 9:05:43 pm

I'll check the CPU on the weekend; mobo will be a bit longer

Post by Mr Toastz »

I'll be checking the CPU tomorrow. The motherboard is a bit more involved, so I may not be able to check it out until after the new year...

And yes blue, if there is a K6III giveaway you can enter on behalf of your mom!

Actually, while on the topic of the AMD Socket 7 CPUs, perhaps we should have on the K6Plus site somewhere a guide explains those cryptic little codes AFX, AHX, etc.

I know I personally can never keep any of them straight in my head.
--------------------
FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-2+ 450 @ 500 1.9V

FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-III 333 @ 350 2.2V

Acer Quasi-proprietary Mid-Tower with P-II 266

Erm, just so I'm clear, the temperature ranges given by the last letter indicate "operating" range? correct?

ie: if a CPU was indicated as ACZ, it would officially be rated to operate up to 85°c?

I'll see if I can make a pretty-fied page for it.

--------------------
FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-2+ 450 @ 500 1.9V

FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-III 333 @ 350 2.2V

Acer Quasi-proprietary Mid-Tower with P-II 266
