I get around 40 fps i ut2k3 with an average ~8 person DM. I fail to see this "Bad FPU" of the K6, as all of my results have been very positive. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Damn it toast i wanted that thing. Hey, I decided to wait for the holiday rush to cool down before sending that CPU off. It was sent today, and you should see it Wednesday/Thursday...

Apologies for the delay!
Mr Toast

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub70.ezboard.com/bk6plus67153.s ... rtoastz>Mr Toastz at: 1/6/03 7:34:41 pm

Hey, no problem! Because I couldn't just leave well enough alone....

Post by His Royal Majesty King V »

All,

Well, the CPU just arrived today, and I stuck it in my main system (listed below with the K6-III 333@350).

Voltage the same at 2.2V core, and the FSB has always been 100MHz.

So I get the settings for 4.5 . . and 5.0. I figure, what the hell, I'll go with 5.0 first.

Boots up into 98lite at 500MHz, and I'm currently, as I type this, almost halfway through BurnInTest v2.1's MMX test, running at 100% duty cycle for 15 minutes.

If it works fine, I'll try for a half hour or so, and see how it goes. If *that* works, I may give it a shot at 550MHz, though I'd guess it'd be unlikely to boot at that speed without upping the core voltage (something I have NO intention of doing)

Then of course, the run for a few days of typical, normal, everyday light use to see if anything weird happens for no reason at all.

Will keep you all posted.

Any other suggestions? I know to try the MMX test at 100%, but anything else while I'm thinking of these? Will the regular "Maths" test turn up anything with the burn-in?

---------------------
UPDATE:

Ran 3 consecutive 15-minute 100% duty cycle MMX tests. Trial version only allows up to a 15 minute test at once. No MMX errors. About a 15 second delay between the 1st and 2nd run, and about a minute or so between the 2nd and 3rd run (I stepped away from the computer for a while).

500MHz seems quite fine for this processor. I tried 550, but it wouldn't boot. Simply a blank screen and a few error-code beeps.

Now just to see I guess how it does in the next few days....
--------------------
FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-2+ 450 @ 500 1.9V

FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-III 333 @ 350 2.2V

Acer Quasi-proprietary Mid-Tower with P-II 266
Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub70.ezboard.com/bk6plus67153.s ... ykingv>His Royal Majesty King V at: 1/8/03 4:23:40 pm

good to hear the cpu works pretty well. I'm sick, so I'll get plenty of rest (letting everyone know that I'm unavailable for a bit).

Why do people still use BurnInTest v2.1's MMX test? I thought they made a new version and said that it was a bug in the old version that made the mmx problems. Anyways who uses mmx nowadays?! the best test you could do is pcmark in a loop and sandras burn in wizard in a loop for 3 hours, if it lasts that it will handle anything
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
Athlon XP 1600+@1.87ghz(10.5x177)
Crucial PC2700 Cas2 fastest settings
Epox 8k9a2+(kt400)
Radeon 8500@280/340
Sound Blaster Live
2xWD 20gb 7200 RPM raid 0 setup
1xWD 20gb 7200 RPM
16x10x40 Yamaha burner
52x Asus CD-ROM

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub70.ezboard.com/bk6plus67153.s ... e>ibLuE at: 1/10/03 3:06:05 pm

The 333 will be up for grabs soon...

Post by Mr Toastz »

I finally located that K62+ 450, and as soon as Mulvihill gets it, we shall proceed on the 333 giveaway (with a new thread). I'm guessing the new contest will start in about a week...

Wow, the burnintest thread will never die huh?

2.1 was the *only* version that *definitely* detected problems with the k6+ chips.

Later versions couldn't do it. Earlier versions couldn't do it. No one really ever came up with a good explanation as to why.

Oddly, an almost identical thread regarding the k7s5a motherboard vis-a-vis the program memtest86 sprang up about a year later. The test was detecting real errors in the motherboard, yet there was still a very vocal crowd saying the program must have been at fault.
