What's the highest stable overclock you've achieved with a K6-3+?

K6-3+ Overclockability

Post by Apparition »

Just curious how far people have pushed their K6-3+, I'm known to go too far with overclocking. Please post other results if I've missed your combination, and also to reveal the voltage used.

5x115 is my highest @ 2.3 Vcore/3.58 Vio, original speed is 450 MHz.

450 at 600 (6*100) on 2.0V

I would try higher but mb has no higher settings available.

Highest my K63+ 450 would go was 560MHz, 112 FSB with the mobo's 1MB cache disabled. Worked very well at that speed.

I went as high as 2.8v to try to get 600MHz stable with no luck. If I remember correctly I found that anything above 2.6v made things much more unstable.

Hello all, first time poster here but I've actually frequented the site a lot over the past two years so muchas gracias for all the help guys. I've experimented extensively with wpcredit as I know most of you probably have but if anyone has a mvp3 or 4 chipset and is feeling adventurous or is just unhappy with the numbers I'll be more than happy to post what settings have worked for me and trust me I've tried every possible combination u can imagine. I'll try to post some benchmarks later.
Anyway back to the topic, I've gotten my K6-3+ to do 575 115x5 and even 600 6x100 but it would crash the second it had to do any fpu intensive stuff and this was using 2.3 voltage. So I've throttled her down to 541Mhz 120x4.5 at 2.1 volts which has been rock solid over a year now with everything tweaked to the max including the 512k L3 cache left on. All though further benchmarking didn't show any noticibly difference as the numbers go with the L3 on or off or set to write back or write through. So I don't know if that's common or what but I've also tried 558Mhz 124x4.5 and was able to run some benchmarks before she blew a piston. The L3 cache was the culprit but I have to say the results I got were rather impressive when even compared to the 4.5x120 fsb setting which isn't in all reality that much slower. It just goes to show you how these chips truly shine after surpassing 550Mhz.

My K6-III+ 550 currently clocks at 660 (110x6) MHz, being watercooled and running at 2,1V. In winter I was able to clock at 690 (115x6) MHz at 2,3V. If you want to see details go here: http://www.nethands.de/pys/show.php4?us ... bby666-PC2

@Nohr: I'm surprised that your CPU is still working after you tried 2,8V  My K6-III+ 450 died when I temporarly tested it with 2,5V...

My ep-mvp3c2 k6III+ 450 has been stable at 5.5x112 (616) for well over a year looking for aliens.

Would the cache on the mainboard restrict you if you try 6X100 or would it restrict you trying 5X112

Had a K6-III+ running 550 MHz (5.5x100) in my system, at its stock 2.0v core. Officially rated at 450.

I was able to run it at 600MHz without any trouble, but when running BurnInTest for a full 100% duty cycle on MMX operations, I'd get anywhere from 3 to about a dozen MMX errors in any given 15-minute run.

I guess that's not too bad out of however many billion operations it performed in that time.

Still, I backed it down to 550MHz.

I kept things at 100MHz FSB because I wanted the stability. I'm sure the slight overclocking of the PCI bus etc wouldn't have caused much trouble, but I wanted to play it safe. I didn't need the extra couple of MHz that much.

I'm sure that at 2.1V it would've run 600MHz without a hitch, but I've never been fond of overvolting.

In fact, as you can see with my K6-2+ in my sig, I will undervolt if possible. Hey, running it at 2.0 doesn't allow me to bump it any higher, and it's just as stable at its current speed at 1.9v as it is at 2.0.
