Yeah, you might be right about the ram.
The processor is and has been rock solid at 600Mhz (6x100) for probably two years now.
The ram I'm using is PC133 2x256 doube sided - hasn't been a problem until now and I did the full test at post and it tests okay.
I might trying swapping out the ram with some other stuff and see if this helps.
I tell you I'm getting very close to giving up and retiring the K6 for a Duron 1.G and ECS K7S5A set up on which I can recycle the SD ram.
Both items are going very cheaply at the moment and offer considerably more performance.
Watch this space.

forget the ECS. get this:

pic and specs:
http://www.elements-pc.com/mb/V266B/V266B.html
I have one of these boards. They perform very well. KT266A chipset with support for DDR and SDR (obviously only one at a time). All for AU$65 (guess you'd have to pay their shipping unless you have a relative in brisbane like I do
As for any other hardware in sydney, I don't know where you shop, but if you want the best price then look no further than: http://www.fluidtek.com.au
recommended buy (though maybe won't suit that mobo):
AMD XP2500+(BOX) CPU AU$114
though I'm not sure if that mobo recognises it and I can't remember if these are FSB333, but I guess so by now and the mobo is only 266, but it should still detect as an athlon. May be better if you find a 1700 Tbred-B for it.
Or if you don't mind a Tbred-A (or low speed B can't remember which) try AMD XP2000+(BOX) CPU for AU$81.

Yeah, the Jetway looked all right but I had no way of getting it.
Running out of time and running out of money I finally threw in the towel.
In the end I think it was the motherboard but I couldn't be sure.
It would start out installing Windows okay but then reached a point where it lost touch with the CD-ROM - just didn't show up anymore.
So to cut a long story short I popped for the K75SA reduced to $A78 (and looking suspiciously used) plus a Duron 1600 with heat sink and fan for another $A55 - better than the K6 even on its best day.
Guess that means I might have a K6III+450 that runs perfectly at 6x100Mhz for sale sometime soon.
Also have a brand new K62+450 tucked away somewhere if anyone's interested.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. . .

AMD XP 2500+ for $114 and XP 2000+ for $81!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
They sell Barton XP 2500+ for $78(OEM) and $81(HSF) at:
www.newegg.com
Lot cheaper at newegg, and you could probably get a 2000+ for $50...

ah...
Listen here punk! (sorry just had to say that )
The prices I quoted are AU (Australian). Hence the price difference. =)
Our dollar is catching up but it's still only ~75 - 80 US cents.
Mind you, newegg prices are probably still cheaper even with the excahnge rate. Guess we have to wait till the backlog of stock sells from the stores here and they buy the new stuff cheaper.
