Modding the MVP3C2 BIOS
Hi all K6er,
A look on my Epox MVP3C2 board reveal that it used a winbond w83194R-58 PLL ic. Have a look of the winbond datasheet I find that the chip can go as high as 150mhz with 1/4 divider, as the datasheet states that the speed (and the divider) can be adjusted via software, and the BIOS of MVP3C2 have some nice clocking setting that can allow the clock goes as high as 133/44mhz, so the question comes:
Are there any one who know how to (or willing to) mod the MVP3C2 BIOS so as to enable the settings like 133/33, 124/31 or 140/35mhz ?
I need the help from the modded bios ---- to clock my k6-III+ nice and high.

I think it is easy enough to get the 150 FSB; (though it probably won't work), - you can use CPU Cool to do that w/ my DFI board. Catch is most boards do not have any provision for the 1/4 divider; and neither do most chipsets; though there are some exceptions out there. Don't have an epox, so can't say for sure about them; but I think they use the MVP3 chipset same as my DFI; and therefore no luck on the divider.

I've got that particular motherboard too, and those settings are available in the BIOS & via (onboard) jumpers with my current BIOS release... interesting find there though...AFAIK the last released bios update was 06/08/2001 (which is currently hosted on the site in my sig' as well as here @ old-Epox.nl )

for all mvp3c2 users: this board RUNS 133mhz. i tried to change the bios setting today and realized, that if you quit the clock jumper the system boots the actual cpu host clock set in bios.
board: mvp3c2 rev. 1.2
biosdate: 12/11/2000
cpu external cache: OFF!
i loaded winxp sp2 with k6-2+ at 600 mhz (133*4,5) and the system is completly stable. if there is somebody out there, who can confirm this fact, please let me know. i would certainly help - maybe its a game of bios settings ...

the clockspeed set jumper i mean are near the sdram slots - there you can choose the clockspeed of the system. 112, 100, 95mhz and so on. setting one jumper to the desired frequency lets the system boot at the propriate speed. what you do is just change the host clock in bios + cache disabling. and reboot - after that you can "quit" or even leave the jumper where it has been. the system now boots at the frequency set in bios!
bios settings availible:

I have the ATX versions of this board as either the EP-MVP3G-M or the EP-MVP3G2. fsb's of 112,124 and 133 are available in the bios but I have not got round to trying any of these settings yet.
With your board I assume that you are running the pci bus at 41mhz and the fsb at 133mhz? Can you give us a listed breakdown of the components you are using in your set up. I am surprised that you have a stable set up at that pci bus speed. Have you tried any benchmarks?

I have the ATX versions of this board as either the EP-MVP3G-M or the EP-MVP3G2. fsb's of 112,124 and 133 are available in the bios but I have not got round to trying any of these settings yet.
With your board I assume that you are running the pci bus at 41mhz and the fsb at 133mhz? Can you give us a listed breakdown of the components you are using in your set up. I am surprised that you have a stable set up at that pci bus speed. Have you tried any benchmarks?

120 gb maxtor 4g120j6 @ udma 3
using winxp home sp2.
... are these cards unstable at 41mhz? but tv, usb and even sound (but with distortions) are functional - i dont realized any probs yet. maybe the system is not running at 41 but 33mhz? is there a possibility to prove it?

and when the datasheet states that the chip can be configured via software to use a 4-divider then it would be interesting to find out if there is any tool available to achieve that! because in case the pci-clock runs at 44mhz this could pose a great risk to run a disk that high overpowered .....

The Winbond W83194R-58 datsheet (still available online at Winbond) states that at 133MHz, the PCI Bus will be running at 44MHz, which is way out of spec for the bus (35% overclock). The AGP bus will also run out of spec (88MHz).
The Winbond W83877TF is an I/O chip (connects to the Southbridge via the ISA Bus)...not a clock generator.
