My K6-III+ 550Mhz Machine (Holder of 1st Place for Mhz)

Hi everyone,
I built this machine about a year ago for fun to see how far I could go, but to be honest I really don't have much use for it anymore. I've tried listing it on eBay several times, but have had no bids at all. I'm only asking $150 for an opening bid and just the processor goes for over $150 in many auctions. I was just wondering if anyone here had any interest. Here's a link to an old listing of it so you can still see it:

I'm probably going to re-list it tonight as evening is the best time to list. Here's a breif break down of the components:
AMD K6-III+ 550Mhz ACR 2.0volt
Gigabyte GA-5AX
256MB PC150 (I have 2 more stick of it if you want 768MB, price neg.)
Brand new Asus case
Lite-On CD-ROM
Zip 100
No HD or Floppy or OS

You should consider selling the components individually I am sure you will get buyers easier that way.

Curious as to your highest bus speed you had stable while playing a basic game ?

I'm prejudiced, but I'd keep it as a backup if you don't have one.

Agree you'll probably do better parting it out, but Ebay's Completed Auctions indicate Socket 7 gear going for Very little. A fine Epox MB like mine recently sold for 99 cents, hence, I'm keeping it. Besides being a fine net backup, I'll probably tinker with the 124 FSB later just for kicks (has 133 option too).

If it were me, I'd go Looking for an Epox , FIC, or DFI 2 Meg board and rebuild it, changing the white CDROM and floppy for black ones when I did so. But of course thats up to you.

Why would you got to that effort & expense Jim... the floppy & CDrom are after all working fine... why not pull their fascia's off (easy enough) and spray them to have what ever colour and/or effect you desire? so far, I've been 100% successful doing so with 2 optical drives & 2 floppy drives

Well couple of reasons. 1) My top of the line machines, (which his certainly has the potential to be), get floppies w/ built in card readers and memory stick readers. 2) I also put combo drives in them w/ at least CDR/RW/DVD, and sometimes DVDRW as well. 3) You must know something about painting that I don't, cause I have yet to see an "Unbaked" home done paint job, that wouldn't wind up w/ fingerprints in the finish eventually, cause without "Baking" the paint doesn't harden properly.

The trick is to apply extremely light coats in a constant 25c ambient, too cold/hot and the paint finish will be damaged, I also always paint outside in direct sunlight, if this has an effect on the paint similar to that which you refer to I'm not sure...

Also what type of paints have you (or others) experimented with? personally acrylic automotive finish (yes even engine block paint) has given a satisfactory result... though to fair & honest metalic paint will loose some of it's lustre eventually

Lastly, I believe that the chemical composition of our aerosol paints may have been altered relating to Australian design requirements... something to do with the drying agent or so forth, most likely it was done in an attempt to prevent 'chroming' (the inhalation of aerosol fumes to optain a state of euphoria)

A card reader does sound useful however... but I'd be sad to rip out & toss a perfectly good optical drive
