can mvp3 do agp 2.0?

Post by socket7! »

As far as I knew, none of super7 chipsets could do agp 2.0. According to http://users.erols.com/chare/chipsets.htm only sis540 had x4 support, which equals to AGP 2.0, but mobos with sis540 all had integrated graphics.

To my surprise, I found in vt82c598mvp datasheet following information:

on page 'i" with REVISION HISTORY it says, that following changes have been made in document 1.0 released on 7/26/98:

"(...) updated AGP spec support from 1.0 to 2.0 (x1 and x2 transfer modes)"

Then on page 2 under Full featured Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP Controller:

"- AGP 2.0 complaint (x1 and x2 transfer modes)"

and also on page 4 second paragraph from the bottom:

"The VT82c598mvp also supports AGP 2.0 compatibility for maximum bus utilization including 2x mode transfers (...)".

I have rev. CE chipset, produced 99 05 which is after the datasheet was written.
I'm wondering whether I really have APG 2.0 slot compliant??

I suppose it depends on what you mean by AGP 2. compliant. If you mean AGP 4X then I don't think so; although working with WPCredit on my DFI boards, I have found a setting for 4x AGP. Though whether it works is another issue altogether. Whatever other features are included in AGP 2. compliant may very well be included though.

4x is not possible, as datasheet says only about 2x transfer mode. What is interesting, is compliance with 1.5v and not only 3.3v.

Datasheet doesn't mention x4, although I also have one pcr file, where that setting is present (offset A4).
