Hello, Some Questions

Post by Stardate:4729.4 »

New here, wanted to say hey. I have to admit that I thought.. Surely there is nobody else that would be into older hardware such as SS7 then me, until....

Well, I have a Gigabyte GA-5AX that I use to run back in the day with a K6-2 500 and am wanting to bring it back to reality, but with a K6-2+ 500 :) I am not looking to seriously overclock this but can I expect to see some modest gains if I managed to get it to 600Mhz? I am planning to mod a socket A copper heatsink onto it as well a chipset cooling (if even needed?). I am looking at putting BeOS R5 & Ubuntu on it, but perhaps Puppy would be more appropriate. There is more but I will add it later when I can think, I don't want to think too much here at work.

Thanks.

hello stardate,

I am running two ga5ax-boards (rev. 5.2) with k6-3+ cpus (450). unfortunately I am not able to overclock them to 600mhz, the limit is 550mhz. so probably you are running into troubles too. my asus p5a boards have no troubles to run them at 600mhz.

Thanks much for your reply DonPedro. So it looks like, at least for the GA5AX's, I'm kinda limited. Oh well, it will be interesting to try none the less.

Thanks Again :)
