I bought a K6-2+/550ACZ via ebay from a seller in Hong Kong.
It will not fit in the ZIF socket 7. The mainboard already has a K6 500 MHz.
I tried another K6-2 and also a Cyrix M2 from my junk box, and they go
in easily.
The board is a Soltek, and the manual lists K6-3 and K6-2+ among the
supported CPUs. It has the voltage and BIOS needed.
I found another super socket 7 mainboard with a K6-2 and tried the
K6-2+ in that, but the CPU will not insert into the socket. I have
done this many times before.
I examined the K6-2+ in bright light - it is obviously used, but has no bent pins.
The pin layout appears identical to the older K6-2 which fit in the socket.
In desperation I even got a mini-vacuum to clean out the socket, in case
some crap got in there - that made no difference.
SO WHY DOES IT NOT DROP INTO A ZERO INSERTION FORCE SOCKET?
K6-2+ will not fit in ZIF super socket 7
Not fit in Socket
Did you unlock correctly the socket ?

RE: Not fit in Socket
Check the pins very carefully. Either some are bent, or, (Very Unusual), they are too large in diameter to fit in the holes. I assume that you had it correctly oriented vis a vis the cut corner.

I know what seller you are referring to, I have purchased three K6-2+ 550s from him recently for use in upgrading old Compaq laptops. I think he has a gazillion of these old parts. All three of them have worked well, but on one of the three, there was a slightly bent pin that kept the CPU from going into the Compaq socket (which is a very tight fit). After very careful straightening with a penknife, I succeeded in getting the chip to go in.
All K6-class socketed CPUs used the same standard 321-pin pinout of Socket 7. There has to be an ever-so-slightly bent pin somewhere. Even the tiniest bend in one of the pins will prevent the CPU from going into the socket.
