Power supply maybe ? Undervolting something ? Or a bad connection to one of the motherboard connecters in the main plug ? Or perhaps your copy(s) of windopes ? Damaged ? Captain Hook ? I dont know Peter, seems very strange.

My guess is the motherboard is beginning to fail. Any capacitors look bulged or leaking?

You could try running Memtest86 from a DOS floppy disc and look for errors. Memory settings may be too aggressive.

You may try removing your memory sticks and reseat them in the slots. While the sticks are out clean the contacts with a pencil eraser.

Just throwing darts at the problem like everyone else but why not? Take a business for example that owns a batch of identical computers in their office that suffer identical failures over time. His motherboards are over 10 years old now.

Another thought I had was the possibility of a power problem where he lives. Maybe he needs a line conditioner.

Problem: suddenly FSB dropped down by half

Post by EXDOS »

Hi !
I`m new in K6Plus,and litle old K6-2 user.
A have the same trouble with MS1569(BIOS 3.5) and K6-III+ @550 Win2k installation,and
my opinion - ACPI,perfectly working on win98,wrong in NT5 based OS-s.If I manualy in instalation begining (press F5 or F6) select NON ACPI kernel, this problem go out,and all work fine.An GA-5AX I turn off them in the BIOS,but same - all ok.
P.S. DonPedro do you have a Slic BIOS on P5A ? If yes , may be this is you problem ?

P.P.S.Sorry my very bad english.
