How to get a FSB >100 on K6XV3+/66 BB+ board?

Dear all,
I have today a board K6XV3+/66 rev. BB+ and running with a K6-2 450MHz.
The operating system is Linux.
I received a K6-3 400 ATZ processor and will mount it on the board (for having more speed).
I already asked to 2 members here how they achieved an overclocking with FSB 124. So far I understood until now according the user manual, the board can only have FSB 100 as a maximum.
So, if somebody of the community can inform me how to make the setup for a FSB > 100, I would be happy (SW setup? Jumper position setup? which position?).
I would like to overclock the processor with 6x FSB>100 or 5x FSB>100.
Thanks.

I used CPUCool to do it on my K6BV3+/66 RevB2. (The K6XV3+/66 is an ATX board, and the K6BV3+/66 is the AT version of the same board). That is a program that allows you to reset the FSB by monkeying with the PLL or timing chip. It is authored by Wolfram Podien. You may contact him by emailing : support@podien.de

You might get that chip to 600MHz if you are lucky as the 400atz variant is not guaranteed to get you to 600. If not then 550MHz may be the best you get. As you are running linux I am not sure if there is a software overclocking program available to you as you will need this to get anything higher than 100fsb with this board. cpucool runs in windows

The K6xv3+ 66 revBB+ has settings given for six frequencies. Namely 66,75,83,95,97 and 100MHz. Has anyone tried the other ten possible settings to see what they give? if anything. Maybe some of the settings are mapped out to give overclocked fsb frequencies. Could be tried with an older unused cpu with the hdd disconnected set at low multiplier to see if there are any there.

Hello together,

at first, try this link for some information:

http://www.udo-richter.de/DFI/index.html

As written there, the board won´t boot at any undocumented dipswitch-position... so 600 Mhz (6,0x100) should be the top speed of the board, at least seen from the hardware side, maybe some software overclocking could run, but I never tried that by myself before, it doesn´t matter if socket 7, socket A, 754 or 939... I always need jumpers to set or bios options to take ;)

Greetings,

Eric

Well I checked with Wolfram Podien and he said there is no version of CPUCool that runs under Linux and that he is not going to do one. You could try to search to see if there are other programs that let you reset the FSB via software that do run under Linux.

Hello,
I achieved till now a 100x5,5 @1,75v with a AMD K6-III+400 ATZ (nominal 1,6V); mobo is K6XV3+/66 BB+. There are instabilities at 6x100 MHz (1,8..2.0V) during linux loading (TinyCoreLinux 3.5 on HDD ATA33).
So, I will improve the connections between the HDD and the mobo with IDE 80 (instead of 40 wires) for having ATA66. Let see if it improves and if the instabilities are gone.
No Idea how to achieve >100 FSB under Linux. If somebody know something, please inform me. I will not make the try to use the linux program "WINE" and the CPUCool together; except somebody say CPUCool runs perfectly under WINE "emulation".

The whole machine is now quicker: an AMD K6-III+400 (@550) is better than an AMD K6-2 450MHz and I am already happy of the achievements.
Something with FSB >100 would be better..

You will always get best results using the 5.5 multiplier. The higher the FSB the better, but 5.5 x 100 works better than 6 x 100 because these processors are optimized to work best using the 5.5 x multiplier.
