IO 333- I just bought a new printer and scanner for $25

Post by Ye Olde Forum »

Posted 5-26-2001 22:52

I just couldn't resist. I really don't *need* either, but I don't have a scanner, and for $25 it's a pretty damn good deal, even without the printer. Of course now I'll have to try to deal with USB on my 503+ and who knows what's gonna happen there. I also, apparently am going to have to buy a USB cable, and a USB riser. I hope one of you jokers can help me figure out how to plug the generic belkin USB riser onto my mobo when I get one. hmmmm... i wonder if win2k already has usb running in the background in my setup -- probably not, I think I turned it off in bios. I guess I'll see just how much crap Win2k can really put on IRQ11

Posted 5-26-2001 23:07

thats pretty sweet, is it a flatbed?

i got a cheap no name scanner about 2 years ago (not that cheap, it was ~$50US which was dirt cheap at the time)

its got nice picture quality but its slow to scan. i guess you have to lose somthing when you get a cheap one, and i would rather it look go ad go slow than vise versa.

Posted 5-27-2001 14:39

...and in anticipation of the arrival of my new (first!) USB devices, spent many hours trying to make usb go under windows 2000 without killing my ISA modem. Every time I turned it on, modem would die. I finally managed to make it all go, but both of my serial ports were killed dead in the process. I hope they go on to a better existance than the one down here. I never use the serial ports anymore anyway, but the whole situation is annoying nevertheless. I could probably switch my modem back to P&P configuration and make everything go, but then the modem wouldn't work under linux anymore.... maybe I need a macintosh again... NOT

Posted 5-27-2001 14:45

does anyone have any suggestions?

my internal ISA modem is currently set by w2k as com1. Every time I try to turn one of the serial ports back on in the bios, w2k detects it and either puts it on com1 also (modem dies), or puts it on com2, but then switches the modem to com2 also (modem dies again).

The modem is hard jumpered right now to be at com4, but win2k doesn't care. I've tried resetting resources manually from inside w2k, and of course tried all the different bios resource settings available for the com ports. I've also tried zillions of other things I could think of (turning on one before the other, deleting and redetecting, etc, etc., etc., etc), but i'm burnt. if anyone knows exactly what to do, feel free to fill me in <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub70.ezboard.com/uyeoldeforum.s ... uage=EN>Ye Olde Forum at: 6/3/01 1:09:33 pm

Posted 5-27-2001 17:06

3pci 3isa

one isa and pci slot share eachother's space. The modem is in an unshared slot, either 1 or 2. I think it's really weird that I have the modem hard set for com4, but windows2k just does whatever it wants with it.

I havn't gone into safe mode and tried manual settings. That would be a pain in the ass as I'd have to remove my modem & check what I set my i/o address to. I suppose I'll have to do it eventually if I ever want my serial ports back. Maybe someday I'll learn to write this shit down.
