use the patch

Post by rdrdr »

I have to agree with earlier post try using george's latency patch. I was having a similar problem and it cleared it up. I found it using google. Search george's latency patch.

Unfortunatly I can't use the patch becuase I have an Asus A7M266 with AMD 761 as the host bridge and Via as the south bridge.

Its in the FAQ also

For example, It does not support the AMD 761 chipset, so it does not support any of the following motherboards: Abit KG7, Epox EP-8K7A, Asus A7M266, Gigabyte GA-7DX or GA-7DXR, PCChips M810LMR, FIC AD11. (This is an incomplete list.) Many of these motherboards have a small VIA chip with a part number of VT82C686B, but that chip is not involved.

I guess I'm just screwed.
Asus A7M266
. oh heck, sorry, I was just assuming it was a via northbridge. my bad. who knew, i thought that the 761 was supposed to be perfect. i really don't know too much about it as i've only dealt with via or intel chipsets. I guess there's a new soundcard in your future.

I was talking to nohr and we were starting to think its a D3D issue becuase Jedi Knight did not stutter and I failed the Dircet Draw test because I could not see the full screen bouncing ball.
Asus A7M266
. i had something like that happen to me long long ago. installing a new version of dx (I think it was 7.1 at the time) fixed the problem.

Still stutters. I think I will get a new sound card. Somebody mentioned the Hercules Gamesurround Muse XL. Any thoughts on this card? I don't want to spend more then $30 including shipping if possible and don't care for extras since I have never been to impressed with sound technology.
Asus A7M266
. I have four flavors of sound cards floating around:

1. AudioPCI (es1370 chip)-- one of the best cards ever made, especially for recording. Never a problem, only available used.

2. Creative SBLive! -- It's an OK card, doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the AudioPCI. I havn't had issues with it, but TONS of other people have problems, esp w/ via chipsets.

3. Turtle Beach Montego -- excellent, almost as good as AudioPCI.

4. '97 onboard -- complete crap. Immediately replaced with the SBLive!

I don't know anything else about any other card except that I've *never* read a bad word about anything Phillips -- and anything that I've ever had that was made by that company has been top quality. I still have an old Phillips SW radio made in the early 50's and it has never even had a tube replaced and still works perfectly.
