3DMark 2K1 Tips

Post by Wiggy »

Hey all!

My specs:
K6-2+ 500 @ 525
256 PC-133
Geforce 2 GTS
40Gig HDD
3.2Gig HDD

Before I got my new HDD I was achieving quite nice scores with my + chip at stock speeds (1311).

However, now I'm using the new HDD I can only get a poxey 910 points @ 525 mhz. I just can't work out where the extra points have gone. I've put everything back that I can remember and tweaked out the BIOS again.

Can anyone give me some tips? Don't fail to suggest the blatently obvious - has been known for me to be a dumb ass.

Cheers people!!

Only two unlikely ideas based on the HD...

1. Is DMA checked for the drive in the Windows Device Manager?

2. Perhaps some type of virtual memory setting is screwed up?

Is the hard drive light flashing during the tests themselves? (not when loading a test)

DMA is on. Not sure bout the flicking HDD LED. I'll take a lookie.

Does it matter if 3DMark is not on the Windows partition?

Hold the phone.

I've had a thought. I'm now using DX 9.

Could this have summat to do with it?Sounds like it could be related.

Does anyone know how to reverse a version??

Thanks.

Reinstall Windows?

any other way is a serious pain.

BTW maybe your mobo doesn't cache 256MB?

I managed to get 1026 and that was with:

Geforce2 MX400 64MB PCI (@ default clock speeds) on PCchips M571MR running K6-2 550 with 128MB of PC150 SDRAM; Using Detonator 12.41 drivers

I don't have this setup now though. I sold it.

Did you change nvidia driver versions at the same time you changed to DX9?

Were there any other changes at the same time?

If you have WinME or WinXP, you could choose a restore point before you installed DX9 to go back, otherwise a reinstall is about the only option.

I achieved into the 3500's 3DMark2k1 points with my Epox G5, K6-III+@550MHz, Radeon 9700 on Win2000 with dx9 installed.

Thats a nice score Sand. Although a bit of a waste of that Raddy.

I've tried the same drivers + others.

I'm using Win 98se.

I thought the caching limit didn't apply for + chips, Feize??

I'll try one of those long winded methods of going back a version, but if I balls it up I'll just reinstall.........AGAIN.

Sorry, one last Q. Will XP run well on my pooter?

Thanks people.
