Post by sylvan2626 »

What is the difference between the two K6Speed programs in the DOWNLOADS section?

RE: K6Speed Programs

You got me. The newer one, (which just to confuse things, was the first one posted), only has one file. The older one, which was posted later, has several files, (and works!! - I use it). It can enable write Allocate, and Write combining, as well as adjust the CPU speed by changing the multiplier.

The notes on the d/l page indicate what is changed/fixed in the .88 version of k6speed, essentially, the bug fixes related to non-"+" CPUs.

Version 0.87 works fine for all "+" CPUs.

The date the files were made available for d/l is irrelevant.

Kyle,

Thanks for your answer.

I have several SS7 motherboards and use both the K6-III "plus" and "non-plus" CPUs.

In order to use the .88 version with the "non-plus" CPUs, do I first install .87 version (and run its exe file) and then install/run the .88 version exe file? Or do I just unzip the .87 version (not running its exe file), and then run the .88 version exe file?

Kyle doesn't drop by very often, so I'll tell you what he told me. You unzip the 87 version, then overwrite the 88 version exe file on top of the 87 version. The 88 version uses the same additional files that the 87 version has.

Safe to assume that the 88 version works for the "plus" CPUs as well?

Also, if I have already run the .87 version exe file, can I simply overwrite it with the .88 version exe file and then run it to get the benefits of .88?

The 88 version works w/ all K62 & 3 Processors, + or not. It is the 87 version that has problems w/ non + processors. And yes, you just overwrite the 88 exe on top of the 87 exe, (keeping the other 87 files, which the 88 needs), then you are set to go.

Thanks for the clarification. Got it (.88) installed - no problems.

I had noted that K6Speed ( v.88 ) displays the MTRR's in reverse (MTRR0 is displayed as MTRR1 and MTRR1 is displayed as MTRR0). Not a big deal really but...

I *think* I had e-mailed Kyle about it some time ago but I don't recall when at the moment...

Good thing I know diddley squat about "Write Combining" and never seriously tried to get it to work.
