Forgot to thank kylesb for that lesson in interrupt requests - it was, how would a K6 Preacher say, very enlightening!

Perhaps we can give you the official title of "K6 Tech God" or something?
Deanodarlo transformed into Spirits247. Just finished benchmarking the video card with an IRQ buffer. Same Tbird system in my earlier post with a Diamond Monster Fusion (Voodoo Banshee) AGP 16MB @ 113/130. I used 3DMark 2000 & 2001 at 800x600x16 (the highest setting my old 14" monitor can handle..).

No IRQ tweaks
3DMark 2000: 2623
3DMark 2001: 1751

IRQ10 (Video Card)
Size---2000-2001
2048: 2623 1754
4096: 2623 1750
8192: 2623 1748

IRQ10 & 14 & 15 (Video Card & Both IDE Controllers)
Only tested this setting with all 3 IRQ's at 2048 just to see if it helped any.
3DMark 2000: 2623
3DMark 2001: 1748

No improvement on my system I'm afraid.
---------------------
Does the noise in my head bother you?
My Rigs
RC5 Stats
Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub70.ezboard.com/bk6plus67153.s ... hr>Nohr at: 8/3/01 11:45:59 am

Preacher:

I won't hold my breath waiting for that "k6 tech god" anointment. I do go way back though in the Intel hardware design history, having first designed systems with 8080, 8085 and 8086 CPUs in the late 70's and early 80's. At that time, one only had the Intel tech manual to figure out how to program the systems, there was no internet, and sharing of knowledge regarding programming and system design was simply not available. We had some fun back then figuring out how to make things work. Probably the most enjoyable project I handled was an inter-computer data gathering system where my little intel boxes gathered manufacturing and test data and exchanged that data with DEC PDP7 and 11 computers using Digital's DDCMP protocol via serial data links (running 9600 baud). Ethernet was a new boy on the block at the time, and tcp/ip for PC's did not exist, so we used crude communication links for the most part.

Ahhh, the good old days, boy I'm glad they're gone. I remember spending over $200 per eprom for 2716s (2k eproms) with a typical sohpisticated program running out of 8k of memory and 1k ram (programs were burned into eprom and ram was used only for variable storage and stack space). Wow, when we finally found it economical to include a floppy drive in our designs, we had to write drivers to read/write data to the drive. HDs of 5 meg in the mid 80's were just the cat's meow (heh-heh).
Best regards,KyleK6speed URL:Coming Soon: www.kylebrant.com/k6speed.htm

I did some more benchmarking, this time with my cable modem internet connection and a NIC IRQ tweak. This was on my Internet Gateway machine which I use for a firewall/web server and whatnot. It's a K6-2 350 underclocked to 333MHz (3.5x95) with L2 cache disabled (due to a crappy worn out motherboard) and 64MB of RAM. A Linksys LNE100TX PCI 10/100 NIC is connected to the cable modem.

Tests were done using WS_FTP LE to download a 25.38MB file off one of my ISP's FTP servers. This server is only 4 hops away and ping's are under 40ms. My internet connection is capped at 1024Kbps down and 128Kbps up.

No IRQ tweaks:
257.4 seconds @ 1013.65Kbps

IRQ11 (Linksys NIC IRQ):
1024: 248.3s @ 1.03Mbps (2nd result: 243.6s @1.05Mbps)
2048: 262.6s @ 993.89Kbps
4096: 241.8s @ 1.05Mbps
8192: 256s @ 1019.34Kbps

It seems to me that the IRQ tweak has not made much of a difference. I believe the variations are caused by either the FTP server of some congestion at my ISP.
---------------------
Does the noise in my head bother you?
My Rigs
RC5 Stats
