Hi guys, I was just wondering if I actually can oveclock my Vaio.
It has a K6-2+ 533MHz, I think it can be possible to obtain 100MHz FSB (so 550MHz) with no overheat issues.
But how?
I was also thinking about change the CPU with a K6-2 500MHz (taking the "plus" on a desktop), but I don't know if it can be possibile.
Overclocking a Vaio F801a??

You cannot actually overclock a laptop, it iss improbable, doable maybe these days with "ultra low power" cpu's, but a laptop designed years ago is certainly not able to be overclocked manually.mamba wrote:Hi guys, I was just wondering if I actually can oveclock my Vaio.

Does the motherboard support 100Mhz FSB? Are there other models of the laptop with similar components and motherboard/chipset with 100 MHZ chips available, or once was available? (remember removing a CPU from a laptop is quite diffucult and not for the faint of heart, as well as placing the cooling device back on to OEM specifications, since the thermal tape/buffer is removed during the removal process). Plus the "Mobile" K6-2+ is different than the mainstream, you would have to find a Low Voltage CPU.
I resent that statement about the switching the desktop CPU. Keep the + on the lappy, you can overclock K6-2's failry well on the desktop. (Mine does 550-600) and is fairly good with fast components which do not eat CPU clocks.
I can also recommend upgrading the Hard drive of the lappy to a seagate, 80GB 5400rpm, 16 MB cache. It did wonders for my Thinkpad 600E. Usually the "slowest" component on a lappy is the Hard drive.
Good Luck.
