Post by skinnie »

Ppl what do you think of an Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1 pci for my k6 system (20eur used) ?

speakers will be one of those:
logitech s200 2.1

Mercury SW-980 2,1 w/Radio
Lifetech 5.1 used

both are in the 20/30eur range...what would you choose?

Get the Fortissimo over the Live. In addition to not being very good, the SB Live series doesn't always work well with AMD hardware, especially AMD hardware and VIA chipsets.

I'm not so sure about the speakers, maybe someone else knows those better than I do.

I concur with the post above. I use a SB Live 4.1 with the ALI Aladdin V and K6-2 500 and its nothing but issues. I used an Aureal Vortex 2 prior to the Live, and that also had many issues. These only came up in Win9x and ME. In Win2K/XP the drivers were automatically selected for the Aureal, and Creative's drivers for 2K was much more stable than 9X/ME.

I would recommend the Fortissimo, only on the condition that; the PCI slot required by the Fortissimo is not above 2.1 specifications. Mainly because of the consequences unseen. Good Luck.
