auction finished / 10x K6-2+550 for EURO 99.-

Post by DonPedro »

EDIT 2: update 12th december:
the seller has cancelled the offer, but now offers 10x K6-2+550 for euro 99.- the offer has article-# 110065190325
END EDIT

EDIT: I just got information that the cpus offered ARE "+" version cpus. pictures showing the plain k6-2 are just for illustrative purpose and do not show the items sold. END EDIT

for those who are still looking for a cheap upgrade to their systems I have found a seller in germany who offers the k6-2+550 (new!) for only euro 14.90. the -550 cpus will surely make it at 600mhz without any problems.

the pictures he shows are taken from a simple k6-2 but the text says it is the "+" version. I just have written an email to him to get sure about this discrepancy. I will post again the answer as soon as I get it.

it is article-# 110066072738 on ebay. the seller is german but sends to all over the world.

this one is especially for kgb who runs a k6-2-550 on a ga-5ax without onboard cache (because it is broken).

see what you miss by staying the course ..... ;)

Looking at those numbers Peter, I'd say on balance you are better off w/ Cache enabled.

I agree with you jim,
the real world applications show that enabling mainboard cache is finally the better choice. this is in sharp contrast to the synthetic benches like everest, hot cpu (partly) and sandra. although I kept those numbers out of the data given here it can be said that by judging a system on the outcome of the synthetic benches one is surely mislead. but once you use a cpu with on-die cache the gain in system performance by turning onboard cache on is comparatively small.

it is also clear (shown here) that a k6-2 NEEDS onboard cache enabled, otherwise you lose up to 25%. using a cpu with on-die cache boosts performance up to 100% (comparing col C and F).

to all!

I just received confirmation from the seller that the offer IS in fact for the "+"-version. pictures shown are just for illustration, do not show the items sold.

Yes, skipping back a post here, seems to me the "Synthetic" benches can show the benefit of enabling onboard cache. Fact is we discussed the subject at length. Remember : 1) Rising results from repeatedly running the Sandra Memory Bandwidth Test; and higher Everest results brought on by running Everest after several iterations of the Sandra Memory Bandwidth Test have been used to concentrate cache hits where uncached memory is involved.
