SUPERpowered PCI GF2-MX-400 available

Post by DonPedro »

hello folks,

On my search for the "best" gfx-card for the PCI bus I found a seller at ebay (store) who offers a very interesting piece of hardware.

it is a gf2-mx-400, featuring

- 64 mb SDR
- 128 bit memory interface
- 200mhz core clock
- 265mhz memory clock

I was very surprised about the core/memory clock, which are just abnormally high for a gf2-mx card, especially the memory clock. my experience up to now was memory clocks would be between 140 and 180mhz, gpu clock 160 to 180mhz. high numbers as advertised were usually found with beefed up gf-2 gts pro or even gf2-ti/500 models.

but on the other hand the offer was/is not straight about these numbers. on one place in the ad at ebay they quote 125mhz memory speed (which would be very very low, never heard of that before; I learned of this deviating information here at a later time) and on another place they are quoting the ominous 265mhz.

so I contacted them to get sure about this. my first question was if they are sure about the 265mhz because it is way to high for a gf2-mx card. they replied and told me that 265 is what they learned from the manufacturer. so I went to the manufacturer's homepage (axle) but found no usefull information on that. so I went to the sellers homepage (webstore) and learnt there that the card has only 125mhz. back to the ebay-offer I also found that they once mention the 125mhz within the offer.

so I contacted them again and asked for final clarification. they replied that because of this strange situation now they had a technician to open a box and plug the card into a system. the card finally turns out 198mhz core clock and 261mhz memory clock!! :)

I immediately ordered two of them.

THIS gf2-mx card IS the fastest -mx card ever built! it lacks just nothing (for a mx-model) and I have never seen anything like before. just everything is there you could expect from such a card: 128bit memory access, 64mb ram and extremely beefed up clock numbers.

if one needs a pci-card with muscles then this is it. the gf2-mx is not the fastest thing you can use with a s7-system, but certainly is very hard to beat at 16bit colors and fits very well with our systems.

bad side: 39.90 euros, which for europeens is not the big tragedy, but if one pays in $$ then you would add 25% to accomodate exchange rates.

pro side: 14 days full refund return policy. the europeen law for commerce on the internet also says, that the costs for sending the item back is to be carried by the seller, if the item's value is 40+. that is the reason why I bought 2 of them. if they are ok and keep what the seller promises then I have no problem with a spare card (for now). if these pros are valid for "foreigners" I don't know. i suggest you ask first.

ah, and NO, I am not affiliated in any way with the seller!
I just wanted to let you know of this occasion.

the seller has still over 40 items on stock. if you are interested in buying one but want to get double-sure about the card's features then wait some days. I should receive them by middle of next week (february 15th) and I will immediately check the card and post the results here.

search ebay for item # 280078409806 or go directly here

oh, wait for any circumstances to read my experience with the cards!
I just discovered that they also once mention 128bits but also 64bits! whoever prepared the offer at ebay must have been drunken ....
