Clocking/Bench with Abit TX5

Post by skinnie »

Hi guys, yesterday I began overclocking a K6 266 with this board, and the thing got 330mhz!with hope of getting more I decided to take off the IHS,and I damaged the proc, but before I had run 3dmaark99 with a single voodoo 2 and the score was
1580 3dmarks99
1808 Cpumarks
and in everest the read benchmark was about 206Mb/s
To my amazement my MMX200@250 did 261Mb/s is this normal!?both proc were at the same bus,and the amd was @ an higher clock...
Andd in the write benchmark the mmx was about 801Mb/s!!I can't remember properly this result in the k6 but I think it was about the 206Mb/s too is this normal or is it a bug :?:
And in 3dmark99,but using dual voodoo 2 sli (I believe that with this proc @640x480 the marks aren't much more than with single voodoo 2) the results were 15593dmarls an d 1802cpumarks..
what ever, socket 7 still rulles!I must get another k6

The Memory Write benchmark on your MMX seems extraorinarily high as compared to a K6-3+. (i.e. about 5 times higher than that of a processor running at about 2 1/2 the speed.) As for the why of it, you will have to ask someone more knowledgable than me.

today I get a K6-2 350AFR..well as for now this chip seems not to clocks as good as the K6..@83x5 it locks on apps and that kind of stuff..
@83x4.5 it benches everest, and here are the results:
read:236Mb/s
write: 530Mb/s

As soons as 3dmark99 finishes I'll post the results, but a thing that is making me confusion, the k6 doesn't support 3dnow! ?I thought it did..

All benches were made with the serial and parallel and usb onboard ports disabled, pci compliant 2.1 enabled, the same heatsink/fan,same mem, same hdd...
And the k6-2 has IHS off..
I really like this board,if it had agp it was perfect lol,but it is good as it is..I try to see if anyone can mod me this bios for high performance or fsbs lol..

EDIT: 2143 3Dmarks and 4493CPuclocks,great improvement uh?

Heh. You put some heatsinks on your Matrox Millennium. :)

And yeah I popped the top off a K6-III+ once and killed it from cracking the core. I was even being very careful with the thing, but it seems those chips have very delicate dies compared to an Athlon XP, say. I didn't kill it right away so I was also able to notice that the extra cooling wasn't really helping.

I would, instead, recommend something like a thermalright socketA cooler  They can be tough to work around the annoying capacitors around socket 7s, but they cool awful nice. I had to chop off part of the clip cuz caps were in the way.

ppl here still asks about 15eur for a "good" cooler for socket A like those,I don't want to waste money on this system..
I have now a stockcooler from a duron 800,got 2x128 pc133 single sided sdram,I must fire up the thing again and try more overclocks and benches...
Does it worth to sink the northbridge and the southbridge?
