Video card/SS7 Compatibility
I have a number of SS7 boards and have problems with finding AGP cards to match them. At the moment I am running two P5A's (one V1.04 the other V1.06). The 1.04 has a K6-2+/500 @ 600 with a Voodoo3/3000 and the 1.06 has a K6-III/450 @ 500 set at 2.1v core with a Voodoo3/3500. Will these boards take up to a Geforce3 without burning out or even a Geforce2 Ti ?
The other boards I have are as follows
TMC TI5VGF runs K6+ with H7 beta bios from Freeway
TMC TI5VG+
MS5169
FIC PA2013
FIC VA503+
Gigabyte GA-5AA
Chaintech 5AGM2
Is anybody running these boards and if so what AGP card are they running. I have tried a TNT2 and a Rage128 in the TMC boards and they were nearly fried alive. So at the moment I can only run PCI cards in the TMC boards.

I found that most ALi chipset motherboards did well with ATI AGP video cards and at the same time were troublesome with GF2/GF3 cards.
VIA MVP3 seems very good with GF2.
For the number of m.b.'s you have GF2 and Radeon 7200 -7500's would be cost effective. Get the ones with DVI outs on them (imho)
Remember there is alot of different drivers out there and some are way better than others depending on the actual video card you have and motherboard combo.
Stability will be the most important issue as the speed difference will never make it worth the reboots under gaming.
There are some registry reworks that can get that little extra performance out of the card you are using also.

I have tried many different combinations of new and old AGP cards on many different SS& boards - only advice I give is never combine a Radeon 92xx card on an ALI chipset - it will continually give you VPU errors.
Other than that, I have best results with a Gforce2 MX400 on an ALI mainboard.
See http://www.k6plus.com/index.php?name=PN ... pic&t=1436 for the benchmark results.

I've run my P5A-B with a Geforce 2, no problems. I used older nVidia drivers on Win98, and the performance seemed pretty decent. I've also run it stably with a Voodoo 3, 4 and 5.

OK, thats real easy. Voodoo 5 5500 - Fastest PCI graphics card ever produced.
I use one on my VIA SS7 board and it beats any AGP card on the same mobo hands down.

The Parhelia is a professional graphics card which was apparently designed to also give decent performance (at the time of its introduction) in gaming. If you remember the late '90s, the 3DLabs Permedia3 had the same target market. The Parhelia has very high precision graphics and performs about the same as a Radeon 8500 in most gaming scenarios, although it also has some bonuses like support for multiple monitors.
The PCI version is very expensive for the simple reason that high-fidelity PCI graphics cards just aren't that common, and it probably cost Matrox a bundle to manufacture the PCI version of the Parhelia. But then again, all Parhelias are pretty expensive.
It's probably not something you'd want for the purpose of squeezing the most out of a K6-based rig.
