Acer AL1916W LCD powerboard capacitor re-population

Post by tazwegion »

I've had this monitor for a while and I'm probably the third owner it's had (my family share upgrade discards), I was naturally curious about the condition of it's capacitors after hearing of others with venting components causing all kinds of collateral damage... from flickering displays to ruptured IC's.

Here you can see the beginning of the end for this section of the power regulator board, in the forefront you can just make out (amongst the hot glue) a domed 270uF 25v CapXon electrolytic, being a better safe than sorry kinda' guy I pulled all the CapXon's out (they're not highly regarded anyway).

Now I'll spare you all the de-soldering waffle and just show you the end result, as I already had 2 Hitano 1000uF 10v GP's on hand I just grabbed the remaining as lowESR spec'd Hitano (EXR series), I probably should have used all EXR series only time will tell, regardless Hitano make excellent quality components.

An easy job certainly less demanding than recapping a PSU (space constraints) or Mainboard (awkward handling)... highly recommended!

Worth doing then. I've had a 21" and a 20" but the 21"er was shot. The twenty is still ok though.

Nothing wrong with that. I still have a 21" CRT as the display on my main computer. And an even more Jurassic IBM Model M keyboard.

(Also an AMD FX-8350, which does the heavy lifting these days...)
