usb too many pins
usb too many pins
I want to install a usb port but the block on my motherboard has 10 pins and the cable for the usb ports only has 9. I wonder if I can just put another hole in the cable end or do I need another type of usb port? Anybody run into anything like this before?

Well I know the belkin dual USB connector can do 10 pins
The Belkin connector I bought at Office Depot/Circuit city was designed for 10 pin configs (i.e. two 5 pin headers for the USB ports). If you can't get the one you have now to work, you might look into this...

Re: usb too many pins
WoW, at my age, too many of ANYTHING would be alright. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Pinout?
rdrdr,

What's the USB pin assignment on the motherboard? If memory serves, in a 10-pin setup, there's usually 4 pins assigned to ground (Two per USB port). Your cable most likely has only three ground wires, but you should be able to get away with not hooking a cable up to one of the ground pins.

Hope that helps,

-fire
